Thursday This n That

Evaporated milk should not be put directly on cereal.  It wasn't bad, per se, but it was weird.  I had a partial can in the fridge and we're almost out of milk, so I thought 'what the heck?'  Next time, I'll use the 1:1 ratio of EM and water before I pour it over cereal.  It did work well as a milk substitute in oatmeal cookies, though.  (Which explains the partial can in the fridge.)

Frozen eggs are just as good as fresh.  I made an omelet with some eggs I froze and it turned out fine.  Note: I scrambled them before I froze them and they looked really orange until they were cooked.  Then they were yellow like usual.

It's been 15 days since I was at Walmart.  I feel like I should be sitting in a shoppers anonymous meeting when I say that.

I went fishing on Monday.  It was like a holiday weekend out there.  Boats everywhere.  People driving said boats like frickin' morons.  Almost got to see a boat accident, but instead got to hear fisherman yelling at the dude in the speed boat who almost hit them because he'd passed close enough to their boat to cut their fishing lines with his prop.

We're out of chocolate chips, so I raided the bag of Hershey's mini mix, pulling out Special Dark and regular.  I chopped those up and added them into the batter for a new cookie recipe I wanted to try.  Yummers.  I posted the recipe to FB.  I'll post it here on Sunday.

Today is the new moon according to my calendar.  I find it interesting that moon does not rotate.  It just sits there, staring down at us, as the Earth's shadow passes over it.

Mother's Day is coming up and I don't even have greeting cards in the house to send to the moms.  I need to get off my butt and get something ordered ASAP.  Derp.  This chaos crap really has me all messed up.

Okay, one more cigarette and it's time to start the day.  I need a shower and I have to do the dishes I didn't do last night and... well, other stuffs.  Have the best day you can out there in the world.

Anything on your this n that list today?

  1. Too bad duct tape fixes pretty much everything but stupid. 😝

I'm trying to hit Wallyworld about every 10 days or longer. It depends on when the soy milk runs out.

My across-the-street neighbor called yesterday basically to say "Hey, if we get a tornado warning, we'll be over to hide in your storm shelter unless it's hailing." They're OLD. LG and I might have to rush out, pick them up in the middle of street to get them inside. Also, she volunteers (under normal times) lots of places and she was feeling people starved. She'd ask me a question re: the family, I'd be 4-5 words into answering and she'd interrupt with tales of her family. That irritates the snot out of me. And after saying, "I should let you go..." SIX times, I finally got her off the phone after 45 minutes. 🤦‍♀️

I think I have a plot for my Nightrider short story. I plan on hiding this afternoon to give it a shot.

Speaking of stupid, the IRS... So...people are getting $$ from the government, based on 2018 or 2019 tax filings. Except some of us don't have to file, ie. SSA, SSI, VA disability, Railroad disability, or just don't plain make enough... Oh, yeah! So, let's set up a portal for those people to enter their info. Wait...SSA/SSI are in the system. No worries, y'all don't have to. So VA folks do the portal. And then the decision comes down, nope, y'all are in the system too. But, wait, SSA recipients that started in January of this year, you "aren't" totally in the system so you need to fill it out. It's a freakin' 1040 form! Which LG had submitted under just his name because this was just to get him into the system, right? And now I have to fill out the same form. IT TOOK FOUR DAYS to get it accepted. They still don't have my bank information on that form because I didn't pay in taxes and I don't get any back. But wait... My "Your Form has been ACCEPTED by the IRS" email? It's states I'm due a REFUND!!! 🤦‍♀️🤯 Why in the every flipping frick couldn't they just do a portal that says:
    Name:
    SSN:
    Address:
Check or Direct Deposit? Bank Info if Direct Deposit:
Reason for using this portal, check all that apply:
    SSA, SSI
    VA disability
    Not required to file
    Other: Please explain

HOW HARD IS THIS?!?!?!? STUPID BUREAUCRATS!!!! This is why I never truly aspired to join the bureaucracy despite being a government/political science major. I don't do well when I'm reduced to headdesking or beating said head against the wall.

Anyway, that was pretty much my week. Lord only knows when LG and I will get our CARE $$, and whether it'll show up in our accounts or by check.

More coffee, a few more emails and a LOL string of Dogs and squirrels, then maybe new writing words. This, too, shall pass. We will survive. We are family. Later, tater.
