Sunday Update 11/3/24

 Good Morning.  :sips coffee:  Welcome.

This wasn't the most exciting of weeks here at Sanderson, Inc. LLC., but there should be some things to talk about today.

No writing.  I did some editing... one day.  I'm having a crisis of confidence again.  Blah blah blah... meh.  It's not the first time and it probably won't be the last.  Anyway, I've gotten 11 pages done now.  I'll try to get over myself and get some work done today.

On the marketing front, I did the 'posting to FB Groups' thing again.  This time for Sleeping Ugly.  I moved 116 copies.  Last night someone read 12 pages of SU, so there's hope.  Tomorrow, Project Hermes goes on sale for election week.  It'll be 99c.  (Or 99p for the UK folks.)  I need to work on some graphics for that today.  We'll see if I can move copies that people actually have to pay for or if I'm only popular when I'm free.

I actually read some stuff that I didn't write this week.  See yesterday's post.

In baking news, one day, I made chocolate oatmeal cookies and pizza.  Yummers on both.  Another day, I made ham and scalloped potatoes.  Mmmm.

As for activity and exercise, my knee was still squonky from the fall back on 10/19, so I didn't get much done.  Then I said 'screw that crap' and yesterday, I went into the woods.  I got the remainder of that pile of sticks moved to the other pile.  Consolidating, doncha know.  No weight loss this week, but no weight gain either which is a win, I guess.  Weight: 175.2

Also, I did some gardening.  I took all the seeds and stuff I'd gathered, went through the steps, and got some stuff planted in pots.  The redbud seeds and the spicebush seeds are in the dirt, along with four acorns.  Meanwhile, the dogwood seeds and the buckthorn seeds are in baggies in the fridge for what they call stratification.  (Cold shocking to make the seeds germinate.)  Now, we wait.

Here in the states, Tuesday is election day.  I'll be glad when it's over.  We'll either see the country start to move back toward being America again, or we'll know for sure that the country is done for.  And at least the phone calls, the ads, and the whole 'vote yes on..., vote no on...' stuff will stop.  We'll trundle ourselves on over to the big auditorium behind the Baptist church and cast our votes.  Then we wait.  And we wait... because I have no illusions that if the Big T wins it'll be accepted by the other side and they'll drag out the actual notification of the winner for as long as they can.  I will have done as much as I can.

Oh, and in case you weren't paying attention, the time change was last night.  I hate this crap and I wish they'd just be done with it.  I'm not sure I know anyone who thinks this is a good idea, so why are we still doing it?  Ask the bureaucrats, I guess.  Derp.

Not much else going on around here.  Keep on keepin' on.  Hang in there.  And all that.  :hugs:

Sunday Update - Week 44

It was a week, lemme tell ya.  Mostly work related and mostly stuff I can't talk about online.  Wednesday was weird.  Friday sucked.  Details will not be forthcoming.

Anyway, I read some stuff.  I'm only one book behind schedule now.  I still have to read 13 books between now and the end of the year to reach my goal, though, so I'm not sure that's possible.  We'll see.

I made zucchini bread last Sunday.  I might make cranberry apple something today, because cranberries were on sale at Wallyworld, so I couldn't pass those suckers up.

Not really much activity this week.  I swept the office again.  The other half this time.  Woohoo.  Still lost 1.8 pounds since last Sunday.  Weight: 164.6.  I'd like to stop at like 150 or thereabouts, but we'll see if it's possible to stop.  I worked a job in FL that got me down to 110.  I was ugly-skinny at that point, trust me.  I might have to switch off diet dew (Wallyworld brand, of course) and start eating breakfast.

On the upside, the two pairs of pants I bought last month that were a little tight fit now.  I look smashing in the red pants with a sheer red shirt and a tank top underneath that.  The pinstripe pants are yet to be worn because I can't quite figure out the best tops to go with them.  Maybe tomorrow.

Oh oh oh, my sleeveless turtleneck tops arrived!  Took them long enough.  I love them.  They look and feel awesome on me.  We'll see how they fare after they're washed.  One is black and the other is purple like deep amethyst.  I do love me some gem colors.

Last weekend, I bought worms in a spate of optimism.  I still haven't gone fishing.  Maybe today.  We really should put new line on all the reels, though.  And we need to rake the yard.  There are too many things to do on my days off to spare a few hours for fishing.  Of course, my weekends now typically consist of sitting and reading and watching TV.  After a week of work, I don't really want to do anything else.

Of course, last night was the time change.  As always, we didn't change the clocks before we went to bed, so right now half the clocks are right and the other half are an hour ahead.  I'll go change those in a while.  Every clock thing in the kitchen and the one in the bedroom don't change themselves.  On the upside, it'll be light when I go to work.  On the downside, it'll be dark when I come home.  Turds.

Everything else is fine.  The family is fine.  The critters are fine.  The world isn't fine, but there's nothing I can do about that.  We'll vote on Tuesday before I have to head to work.  I'm not sure it'll do any good, but not voting definitely won't.  So go vote.

And on that note, I'll let you get back to your day.  Have a great one!  And drop a note to tell me how your week went.  =o)

Sunday Update - Week 'Time Change'

Well, my computer says it's 5:51, but my brain says it's almost 7.  Stupid time change.  I just saw on FB where a local news station asked how people felt about the time change and like a dozen people gave it a heart.  Those people should be slapped.  Just sayin'.

Anyway, here's the week that was...

I finally got some editing done.  Last night.  One and a half pages worth.  Then my brain started with the whole 'I'm never going to get this done' and the 'even if I do get this done, it's still gonna suck and require weeks more work and pages more edit notes and even then it will probably still suck'.  It's rough inside a writer's head.

If you missed it, I now have four books in wide distribution.  Blink of an I went first, then I did all three books in A Model Curse.  I wish I had a universal link for the series as a whole, which would be so much easier, but alas, I haven't found a way to do that yet.  I still need to fix all the blog links so they point to the ULs for each book.  I've posted the links to FB though.  So that's something.

This wasn't the most exciting week for reading, but I did finish one book, DNF'd one book, and made progress in the omnibus I'm reading.

In baking news, I made applesauce bread one day and chocolate oil cake yesterday.  There I was doing the oil cake and I fucked up majorly.  I sifted together the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.  Then I began adding the wet ingredients.  Stir stir st... this doesn't look right.  CRAP... I forgot the baker's cocoa in the dry ingredients.  I chucked it in and did my best to incorporate it.  Needless to say, my cake still has lumps.  I added chocolate chips to try and mask the lumps.  Then when I was making the frosting - chocolate peanut butter, by the way - I fucked that up, too.  After an interminable amount of time trying to get it right, I finally gave up and dumped it on the cake.  Except it was way too wet and started running over the edges of the pan onto the counter.  GAH!  I got the flood stopped and threw the whole thing in the fridge.  It ain't pretty, and it'll never win any awards, but it's pretty yummy, and that's what really counts.  And I was right, the chips hide the lumps.  Yay.

You know, when you're making frosting and you're totally screwing it up and it's like lumpy soup, so you add more powdered sugar, but then it's too thick, so you add more milk, but then it's too thin again, so you add more... Umm, I now have a heavily frosted cake AND a big bowl of leftover frosting, too.  I think it'll make a good ice cream topping.

On the activity front, I did 5 out of 7 days.  One day was a walk and the other four were throwing logs.  We have a sizable stack of firewood now.  Someone asked me if I was getting a woodstove for Christmas.  Umm... no.  For now, we're just accumulating wood.  It gives us both an activity where we're getting the hearts pumping and doing something constructive, so it works for us.  Weight hasn't changed: 181.6.

The big bucks are starting to wander through the yard lookin' fer love.  Magnificent.  Fingers crossed they make it through hunting season.  If they don't, here's hoping they lose their lives to people who hunt for food and not for trophies.

I think that's about it for me today.  There's probably more, but it ain't coming to me at this time.  What's been up in your world?

Sunday Update - Week 11

Whoops.  Way late again today.  At least today I can blame the time change.  Stupid stupid time change.

In editing news, I finished the edits for Duke Noble: Rumor Has It and it's off to readers now.  It tops the scales at 55190 words.  Which is 192 pages of pure story in MS Word (TNR 12 point) pre-formatting.  I'm not rushing my readers.  They'll take as much time as they need.  Once I get it back, figure a week for tweaking and then formatting, and I'll upload it for publication.

I readjusted the cover a bit.

With new cream colored text.  Woohoo.

Then I made a Coming Soon graphic.  (Look over there ----->)  And I made new banner graphics for FB and MeWe.

Sixteen books ain't easy to fit on a banner and still have them all legible, lemme tell ya.

Also, I started working on the back cover copy for the book.  LAME.  Lame lame lame lame lame.  When I can produce something that doesn't suck, I'll show it to you.  Today, I'm going to read the backs of all my noir crime books and see if I can't produce something as zippy.

In reading news, I finished the book I was saving for when I got the edits done.  Yay!  It was made of awesome.

In baking news, I made Chocolate Streusel Coffee Cake - tweaking a recipe my friend, Silver, posted on her blog last week.  Yummers.  I also did quesadillas and french bread pizza and pot roast.  It was a food filled week.

On the activity front, I spent one day removing leaves from some of my gardens and three days I got walks in.  As for weight, let's just say I stepped on the scale and got right the hell back off of it.  Somehow (perhaps it's all the baking) I'd gained 4 lbs.  Gak.  Then I lost one.  185.6.  I haven't weighed myself since.

Speaking of gardens, once I removed the leaves, I have hyacinths, crocuses, and daffodils.  Only the hyacinths are flowering yet.  Two peonies are coming up.  Another one is usually later.  And the fourth one died last year.  The lilac has leaf buds.  The Charlie Brown hydrangea is growing up from the ground again.  The irises are doing their thing.  Still waiting on several plants to show me whether the cold snap hurt them.  :fingers crossed:

In general, life is good.

How are things in your world?

Sunday Update - Week 44

Hello again.  We're slowly creeping toward the end of 2020.  A lot of people won't be sad to put this year behind them, and I'm one of them.  Still, whether 2021 is better than this is up to you.  And what happens on Tuesday.  Positive forward progress vs negative sliding backward.

And if you haven't set your clock back yet, you should probably get on that at some point today.  (We do ours Sunday morning after the coffee has kicked in.)  Right now, the computers and the satellite clocks all say 5:30 and the other clocks all say 6:30.

Anyway... I didn't do any writing this past week.  This was mainly due to getting Cinder Ugly done and up for pre-order and focusing on the Once Upon a Djinn sale.  Post-publication is not a good writing time for me.  I get the blues.  Meh.

I have done a bunch of marketing this week.  It's netted me 9 sales, which is more than I've sold over the past few months combined.  If I'd done some paid advertising, I could've possibly raised that number, but paying for marketing is not in the cards right now.  Gotta sell books to make money so I can pay for advertising to sell books.  It's a vicious circle.

On the reading front, it was a good week.  Not gangbusters, but good.

This week was not good for activity.  It rained.  A lot.  Like 7 inches worth of sky water.  And I was not inclined to exercise indoors.  Or clean.  Meh.  Let's not talk about weight.  I didn't weigh myself.  I don't want to and you can't make me.

I made oatmeal raisin cookies this week.  Those are for Hubs.  I had planned to make a meatloaf yesterday, but then I got a wild hair and picked up the fixin's for chili.  Big ol' vat of it.  Yum.  Actually I planned to make the meatloaf Thursday and then forgot until it was too late in the day to start it.  That's the problem with meatloaf.  It takes 2.5 hours to cook, so I have to get it in the oven by 2:30 if I want it ready by dinner.  And I don't like eating late.  I'm getting a real craving for cake, so that might be on the to-do list for today.

Speaking of wild hairs, I cut my hair yesterday.  It was driving me nuts.  Back up above my collar it goes.  Yay.

It's finally getting cold enough to go into the woods.  I haven't yet - 7" of rain makes muddy mush out of my hill.  The rain also screws up the fishing - makes a muddy mess out of the river, doncha know.  I hope to be able to do both of those things soon.

I've been thinking about what to do for writing next.  Again, I'm faced with the same decisions - do I hit the unfinished YA fantasy, or the unfinished mystery, or the unfinished UF?  Or do I start a new book - another SCIU or Dennis Haggarty?  Decisions decisions.  I'll figure it out.  Needless to say, I will not be starting NaNoWriMo today.

I think that's about it for me today.  What went on in your week?  What lies ahead?

Sunday Update - Week 9

Hi!  Thanks for stopping by!  Here is the week that was.

I started off the week by finishing the round of edits on Ugly and the Beast and sending it out to peoples.  Now I wait.  And while I'm waiting, I made some good strides in writing Cinder Ugly this week.  I was up about 7K words by Thursday night, then I took Friday night off to watch Live PD.  Then last night, my hands were too squonky to write, so I had to take it off, too.  Better luck tonight.

In marketing news, UNEQUAL is still free through today.  I've been posting things on FB and have moved X copies as of the writing of this post.  To that end, a friend of mine took some time out of her busy schedule to make me a pretty graphic:
SQUEE!  It's way the hell better than anything I could've done.  I'd pay her to do all my books, but, yeah, budget.

In other marketing news, the SCIU books will go on sale Wednesday.  99c each.  Woohoo.

Other than that, I did a little reading - very little.  I only finished one book and got about a third of the way through another.  When the writing goes up, the reading goes down.  =o\

Of course, I baked stuff.  More applesauce bread.  Yay!  I need to do a batch of oatmeal cookies today.  We'll see.

Last Sunday, I went fishing.  I finally caught a fish!  It was only a 5" bluegill, but it's better than getting skunked again.  I meant to go fishing Friday, but...

Instead of fishing, I was uncovering my garden beds for Spring.  Those poor plants were getting all funky from hiding under the leaves.  They'll do better now.  Even though Hubs helped yesterday, I didn't get all the beds done yet.  It's a pain in the back (and the wrists and the legs and the feet) to do it, so I do it a bed at a time.  Four beds down, two to go.  (One bed doesn't need uncovering, since it never got covered to begin with.)

In diet and activity news, well, I bought ice cream.  And I ate it all.   I went almost two months - missed it by a day - and I didn't really see a change in my weight or how I felt.  We'll see if I start buying ice cream again.  Maybe.  Maybe not.  No weight lost this week and the activity was mostly clearing the gardens.  Now that the weather is getting warmer, I need to start walking every day again.

And that's it for me.  How are things in your world?

ETA:  Gah.  Totally forgot that it was going to be the hell of time-changing this morning.  Will they never stop this madness?

Thursday This n That

Last night, just after I sat down to write, a thunderstorm rolled in.  So my word count for yesterday was 133 words.  And that was all fixing part of the scene I wrote the day before.

I decided what critter was going to attack the band of intrepid characters and it ended up being one of my own design because nothing fit what I had in my head.  So, I wrote the scene.  Then yesterday, I realized the beastie needed to be beefed up a little in the description and it needed to be gray rather than black.  And it ended up being a battle scene without any battle.  Beasties defeated by cunning.  I thought my solution was rather brilliant at the time.  We'll see if I still feel that way in edits.

For a guy who didn't want his magic or any kind of leadership role, Aryl's pretty good at both.

On the way to go fishing, a little hawk flew across the road in front of me carrying its prey.  Not sure what kind of lunch it would be having, but it was definitely something small and furry.  Too small to be a squirrel, too big to be a mouse, too dark to be a chipmunk and the tail was wrong for a chipmunk anyway.   Eat hearty little hawk.

With the time change, I've been getting up at 4am.  Which is good because the cat expects to be fed at around 4:30 (she used to get fed around 5:30, but time change).  The worst part of it is that getting up at 4 means that by the time it's time to call the office at 8, the coffee is almost gone and I don't want to make another pot just for a twenty minute call.

Speaking of the time change, where is this extra hour of sleep I was supposed to be getting?  Total rip off.

Can anyone tell me why people vote YES for new taxes?  I wonder if it's because they don't think that whenever they vote for new taxes, they will also be taxed.  Maybe they think the taxes will only hit the other guy.  I mention this because we voted on Tuesday and while we voted against the new tax thing, it passed - by a slim margin, but still.  Blerg.  I guess I shouldn't bitch overly much because some of you out there are paying outrageous amounts in taxes and Missouri is still pretty low.  But I want to keep it that way and apparently others here don't.  Double blerg.

Speaking of which, our property tax bills arrived this week.  Umm, yay?  Most of it goes to pay for our shitty school system, which we never used and never will.  I wouldn't mind helping pay for the education of our youth if the education I was paying for was actually worth something.  Know what I mean?

The bucks have been stopping here.  (Yes, I went there.)  We've got some really gorgeous boys this year.  If only I could get some pics.

Speaking of pics, I really need to wash my windows.  It's hard to get a good photo when the glass you're shooting through is dirty and has spider webs strung across it.

Wow, I've been kind of chatty this morning.  Thanks for reading this far.  I'll let you go for now so you can get on with your day.

What's up in your world?

Sunday Update - Week 44

Hello again.

I'm writing again, cuz like it's NaNo time.  So far, I've added 2105 words to this Untitled Fantasy.  Of course that means I'm behind by 1229 words, but I'm okay with that because, hey, I'm writing again.  Sing it with me.  Hey hey, ho ho, this empty page has gotta go.  What I'm doing right now is going through what I've already written and adding stuff during the afternoon, and then I'm adding new words onto the end at night.  Slow going with the adding new words because I'm trying to get a feel for the story again but I expected that.

You'll notice a ticker here at the upper right corner of the bar.  It shows where I'm at for the day.  There's a ticker on Outside the Box that show where I am overall.  Red means behind in either case.

The Dennis Haggarty sale wrapped up.  Let's not talk about it, okay?  October was a bad bad month for sales for me.  Today begins The Semi-Spectacular Dystopian Sale.  Blink of an I and Unequal are both on sale for only 99c/99p.

Reading wasn't in the cards last week.  I spent the majority of the week reading through the fantasy so I would be ready to write come Friday morning.  Yesterday, I DNF'd a book and started the sequel to a book I loved the week before.  Oh, and I got some news yesterday - the third book in a series I've really enjoyed is dropping soon.  The author posted the cover and when I asked, he said sometime in the next couple weeks.  Squee.

Since it's NaNo, which means a boatload of writing but also a boatload of procrastination, I cleaned under and behind the stove Friday morning and yesterday morning I baked then I went and did woods work.

The woods are a total mess since last I stepped into them.  Loads of fallen limbs and dead vines and leaves on the paths.  Yay!  One series of vines we hacked a couple years ago has finally given up the ghost.  And it was one that had a big widow-maker limb hanging off it.  Well, it dropped some and the widow-maker was within reach, so I grabbed the end and started walking away.  The weight of it pulled the rest of the vine free from the tree and it all came crashing down behind me.  Used the limb saw to hack it into manageable pieces and threw them on the wood pile.   It's good to be in the woods again.

As for baking, I made Apple Cranberry Bread.  Since the recipe is in a cookbook, I won't have it available to post here until I take the time to type it up.  It's pretty yummy stuff.  (And it's healthy, too.)

In activity, I did 5 days out of 7.  Cleaning and woods work and walking, with one day fishing.  No weighing this week.  Maybe I'll do it before my shower this morning.

I didn't catch anything worth mentioning during my fishing trip.  Froze my buns nearly off, though.  And got some good exercise as I clambered all over the park looking for where the fish might be biting.

This week, I really need to do some heavy duty cleaning.  I've been in such a malaise about doing anything this year.  Now that I've found my gumption to write, I'm seeing all the other stuff that needs doing.

Oh, and the stupid time change was last night.  We don't set clocks back until we wake up in the morning.  Not sure about the wisdom of that since I originally got up at 4:30 which was now 3:30.  I made myself go back to bed for an hour, but meh.  I think Trump could win by a landslide if he did an executive order doing away with Daylight Savings Time.  Set the nation free from this travesty!

Well, that's it for me.  I should probably go do some marketing now.  What's been up with you lately?

Sunday Update - Week 10

Hello again.  This post is way later than usual because 1) I forget to schedule it, 2) I slept in for a change, 3) Daylight Savings Time began last night, so it's really just after 6am.

I did some pretty good work writing last week. I did just under 7K words over the course of the week.  And last night I finished the first draft.  It's sitting at a little over 54K words.  I have loads of editing to do, so that number will definitely rise.

I also did a boatload of FB marketing for the Natural Causes sale.  I wish I could say I sold a bunch, but umm, no.  I probably would've done better if I wasn't promoting a Book 2 with only 2 Amazon reviews.  If you read indie author books, please review them.  Your reviews help with sales, they help with marketing, etc. The sale's still going on until Tuesday.

In reading news, I managed to finish two books last week - both of them on Friday.  I'm also most of the way through another.

For the active thing, I only got off my butt two days last week.  Wednesday and Thursday I went into the woods, raking trails and throwing some logs around.  About an hour each time.  It doesn't show on the scale, but it was good to get out there and the more I'm out there, the easier it is.  Climbing the hill afterwards isn't nearly the trial it used to be.

Yesterday, I made brownies.  Just my 'basic fudgy brownie' recipe, but oh, so good.  Which probably doesn't help with the whole weight loss thing.   Sometimes a girl just needs brownies.  I ate one, Hubs ate one.  Ten left.  Woohoo.

This coming week, I'll start the editing process on UatB.  And I'll do some of the cleaning I neglected while I was working.

Well, I can't think of anything else to say.  How was your last week?

Thursday This n That

Clock changing time again this Sunday.  Yeah, it's stupid.  Yeah, it's pointless.  But hey, it's our governmental geniuses at work.  The smart President hoping for re-election would win in a landslide if he used one of his executive orders to do away with the time changing travesty once and for all.

I watch so many real life cop shows.  I can automatically tell when people on those are lying or fake crying or faking injuries.  Or faking that they can't understand English.  It's sad how many people out there are bald-faced liars.  Does give me a lot of fodder for writing, though.

Speaking of which, Natural Causes is on sale, in case you missed any of the many places I notified people about it.

I love how all the Chewy.com commercials say that shipping is free.  Sure, it's free.  If you spend more than like $50.  Do you know how much cat food I'd have to order to reach $50?  I guess I could order food and litter and maybe find some other stuff, but I'd be like a freakin' prepper in here.  There's only so much space available for all that stuff.

I saw my best in-person fan the other day.  She's the cashier at my feed store. It had been long enough that we were talking and joking and laughing for like ever when another customer got in line behind me and I hadn't even given her my feed order yet.  I offered to let him go in front of me, but he was cool.  So, I finally finished up and went out to let the guys load my order.  While I was waiting, the other customer came out to get his feed loaded.  He looks at me and says "She told me you were an author."  I love her so much for doing that.  So, I talked with him a bit and then gave him one of my marketing materials - the postcard with my first 12 books.  Turns out his wife has always wanted to write a book but has never had the time.  I hope she gives it a try and finds she really does have the time to reach her dream.

I really need some new marketing materials, but I am so full-up with older stuff, I'm running out of space to put everything.  And I can't bear to throw anything out, so don't even suggest that.

What's on your this n that list today?

Adapt the Critters or Adapt Yourself?

One thing confuses me about the time change... Okay, everything confuses me about the time change, but until we can get the government to stop doing this to us, we're stuck with it... Anyway, what confuses me is why we even attempt to make our animals adapt to it.  Isn't it easier to change the feeding schedule so they never even notice this weird human thing we do?

This hadn't occurred to me until years ago when I was talking with a woman whose husband worked at the local feedlot.

Now, if you're not familiar with a feedlot, it's where the farmers send their young steers to fatten up before they head to market.  Imagine huge pens with thousands of cows each, standing around waiting to get fed.  And they get fed on a schedule.  Which they're used to.

Then comes the time change.

So, anyway, she was telling me the worst part of the time change is getting all those cows to adapt to the new feeding schedule.  Easily a hundred thousand cows waiting an extra hour for their feed every fall.  Apparently, it's quite the loud and raucous affair.

And it occurred to me.  Why force all those cows to adapt when it would be easier to set the feeding schedule to when the cows expect to eat?

At home, I adjusted my own thinking.  I mean, it's a real pain to get Kira to move her expectations an hour.  She meows.  She carries on.  She gets in my personal space and pats at me.  Way easier for me to feed her an hour earlier.

If one cat can make that much racket, imagine what a hundred thousand cows can do.

Around here, we have scads of turkey raising facilities.  Little Butterball signs at the ends of the driveways point them out, but you can see the long, low buildings as you drive down the highway.  Right now, I'm guessing those turkeys are having to adjust to being fed an hour later than they're used to.  And the Tyson farms with all those chickens.  And birds are dumber than cows.

Wouldn't all these animals be under less stress if we were the ones to adjust?  Contented animals make for more plentiful and tastier meat.

Speaking of feeding, Kira is reminding me that it's time for her morning food.  She got fed at around 6:30am before the time change, so now it's 5:30am.  I'm up by this time most mornings, so it's no big deal.  And if I wasn't up, she'd wake me up - just like before the time change.

How about you?  Do you adapt or do you make them adapt?  How's that working for you?
