Saturday Reading Wrap-up - 7/10/21

Hello again. Here's the weekly wrap-up of my reading stuffs.

I picked up two ebooks this week - both billed as Romantic Comedies.  Still no new hardcopies.  I still have two unread ebooks - a romance and a suspense.

Books Read:

47) Going All the Way by Cynthia Cooke (7/9/21) - Romance* - 5 stars.  New to me, but not underappreciated.  Picked this one up free through the Author Billboard FB page.
Review:  "Cute. And exactly what I needed - a light, fun romance without too much angst. A little spicier than I like, but I'm not knocking it for that. It's well written and the story is good."

46) Smoke Rising by Craig Halloran (7/8/21) - UF* - 5 stars.  New to me, but not underappreciated.  Free through the Book Gorilla newsletter.
Review: "Excellent story. Loads of fun. Interesting premise. You don't get to the supernatural part until about 2/3rds of the way through, so if you're intent on that, keep reading. You'll get there. It's worth it. The only niggle was I wanted more. Guess I'll have to get the next book."
Available in audio.

No DNFs.

Currently reading...  I stayed up to finish the romance and once I did, I went right to bed, so nothing new yet.

What was up with your reading stuffs this past week?

  1. I'm at 107 books on my 200 book challenge, which puts me 3 books ahead of schedule. Last week was a satisfying week even though I only listened to three. All were re-listens in prep for the new release that's the beginning of a new trilogy set in the same world.

107 - Crush the King (Crown of Shards, #3), Jennifer Estep, fantasy/romantic elements, 5 stars, not unknown, not underappreciated. A satisfying end to the trilogy with hints of threads to be tugged in the future. Queen Evie, the MC, gets her revenge in spectacular fashion.

106 - Protect the Prince (Crown of Shards, #2), Jennifer Estep, fantasy/romantic elements, 5 stars, not unknown, not underappreciated. True love wins out, and Evie avoids more assassination attempts as the plot thickens.

105 - Kill the Queen (Crown of Shards, #1), Jennifer Estep, fantasy/romantic elements, 5 stars, not unknown, not underappreciated. Evie Blair is the "royal stand-in," sitting 17th in line for the throne. When she miraculously survives the "Seven Spires Massacre," she's the last Blair alive and it's up to her to use her wits and new-found friends in a gladiator troupe to see her safely on the throne--"safe" being a relative term. Amazing start to the trilogy and I put it on my Goodread "Best Book of the Year" shelf. That's something I don't do often.

Currently listening to the first book in the new trilogy, CAPTURE THE CROWN. This is a sort of "next generation." It's 16 years after the end of CRUSH THE KING. Princess Gemma of Andvari, who as a child also survived Seven Spires with Evie's help, is on a spy mission. Prince Leonidas of Merta, a country that's mortal enemies of almost everyone... Well, lets just say that Gemma and Leo have a complicated history. I have about 3 1/2 hours left so I don't know the outcome. I'll finish it today and then? Who knows? I'm hoping the next book I have on hold at the library will drop. I had the opportunity to check it out a few days ago, but I knew I was going to finish CTK and CTC before listening to it, and there's still a wait list so I set it for "next up." We'll see if it hits. If not? I'm not sure. Something short.

    Anyway, happy reading!
