Saturday Reading Wrap-up - 7/31/21

Hey, wait, it's Saturday!  And the last day of July.  How'd that happen?

Nada went on this week in reading.  I'm still kind of slumpy there.  I didn't pick up any new books.  I didn't read anything.  And I didn't DNF anything.  I still have eight unread ebooks on my Kindle.  And, of course, scads of hardcopy books to read.

Unfortunately, I'm not currently reading anything, except my own manuscript while I look for flaws, errors, and general issues.  I've been watching the Olympics and doing crossword puzzles when I should be reading.  Sorry about that.  Maybe next week there will be actual reading stuff in my reading wrap-up.

What happened in your reading world last week?

  1. Mine was a pretty good week, all told. I'm at 119 books of my 200 challenge, 4 books ahead of schedule. I got 5 books under my belt for the week.

119 - A Good Day for Chardonnay (Sunshine Vicram, #2), Darynda Jones, RomSusp with a touch of magic. 5 stars. Not new/underappreciated. Lots of snarky fun, some very sweet moments, good suspense, threads from the first book tied off satisfactorily, and some sniffles. Now to wait a year for the next. I highly recommend this book and series.

118 - A Bad Day for Sunshine (Sunshine Vicram, #1), DJ, RomSusp/Magic, but light on the romance. 5 stars. Originally gave it a 4.5 but after the re-listen, I boosted the rating to 5. Sunshine is snarky fun, has an awesome kid and parents and the suspense stuff is suspenseful. And yes, I'll do a relisten when the next installment comes out next year.

117 - Double Trouble (Barefoot Bay/Hard Target cross-over), Silver James. 5 stars. Not new/but TOTALLY underappreciated! LOL Why not give it 5?!?! It was better than I thought, reading it as a reader. Also, I found the scene I needed for the current WIP. LOL

116 - Last Guard (Psy-Changeling #20; Trinity #5), Nalini Singh, Paranormal/SciFi/Romance. 5 stars. Neither new or underappreciated. This is her newest release. Totally loved the story and the characters. Totally love this series, but readers really need to start at the beginning. Awesome world and easy to get lost in the characters. Good stuffs! Oh, and Russian bears! Often.

115 - Alpha Night (Psy-Changeling Trinity, #4; Psy-Changeling, #19), Nalini Singh. Para/SciFi/Rom. 5 stars. Re-listen for the new release. This is a romance between a female Alpha wolf and a Psy Arrow who is way deeper than anyone knows. I loved it, even if the Russian bears only made a few appearances. LOL

Currently listening to ON THE EDGE (The Edge #1) by Ilona Andrews. Another paranormal. I last listened to it in 2018 so it's been awhile. I couldn't find anything new or different that appealed after finishing A GOOD DAY FOR CHARDONNAY. The book kinda ruined me for a bit it was so good. Anyway, this one is interesting enough but I'm not hanging on every word so I'm getting words of my own written. It's hot and I'm staying inside. Cheers to edits, new words, and generally vegging out.
