Thursday This n That

I just got up.  Why?  Because I couldn't sleep.  Again.  I mean, I went to bed at 9 like usual, but I was up again at 9:40 because I was sick of flopping around in bed.  So, I turned the computer back on.  I played poker for a while, while listening to classical tunes.  Then I worked on my drawing for a while - got the paws figured out and fixed.  (I'm bad at hands and paws.)  Then I did my marketing posts, because I knew damn well I wasn't going to be in any shape to market this morning.  I went back to bed at midnight and still flopped around for probably another hour.  Blerg.

Can I just say one thing?  Menopause is a real rip snorter of a good time.  What evolutionary purpose does it serve?  Was it a defense mechanism?  Did our ancient ancestors' predators think 'don't eat her, she's all hot and sleepless'?  Seriously.  No wonder some old ladies have a reputation of being cranky.  Maybe womankind wasn't evolved to live this long and so by living this long, we've got evolution all screwed up.

Thinking about evolution reminds me of an old Gallagher routine.  I'd share it but it's a sight gag.

Last night, Hubs and I watched a show about hummingbirds on PBS.  So pretty. And so interesting.  I had no clue that hummingbirds also eat tiny bugs.  I thought they were all nectar all the time.  Nope.  They open up their little beaks and gobble the tiny bugs mid-flight.  Cool.  On a coincidence note, the bird of the day on my calendar is a ruby-throated hummingbird.

We also watched the new crime show with Lt. Joe Kenda.  Yay.  I've missed him.

I did the big Walmart haul yesterday, too.  Ugh.  On the upside, I got a $20 pork roast marked down to $12.  It's five meals worth of meat.  And it wasn't even at the 'sell by' date.  Yay.  On the downside, burger prices are up again.  And deer corn went up slightly, too.  Fucking politicians.

Speaking of which, gas here is $2.79 a gallon.  A dollar more than before Inauguration Day.  But the fact-checkers keep saying the rising gas prices aren't Biden's fault.  Derp.

A friend of mine on FB has a running gag where he's seeing how many times a single post can get fact-checked and posting screen captures of each additional fact-check added to the bottom.  Last count, he was up to NINE.  ROFL.

Well, I suppose I ought to get my day going.  I'm dragon-ass today.  How are things in your world?

  1. It IS Thursday, isn't it? There's nothing new or particularly exciting in my world of late. Sorry you aren't sleeping and I get the whole mennpause thing. I started it in my late-thirties. I still get the occasional hot flash and I'm older than dirt. Just to be a little snide here, if all those transfolks had to go through menopause, they wouldn't be so keen to switch. Hummingbirds ARE cool. Sadly, I can't see my feeder these days so I miss if they come around, even though I do have to refill the feeder periodically. I keep thinking I should have known Kenda when I volunteered at CSPD and dated a few cops there. Okay, dredging up some of my this-n-that...

We average 71 days of 90+ high temps a summer. So far, we've only had 19. I shouldn't complain but dang, it really IS the humidity and not the heat.

Stormy is coming this afternoon to play and spend the night. His parents will swap out cars tomorrow when they pick him up becaue they are taking my Highlander to St. Louis for vacay. I'm jealous. They're going to a Cards game (or two!). Both their vehciles need replacing sooner than later so better safe and all that. Drover is all ready to hit the road. Or will be after I clean out my junk from the center console.

We bought a new fan and light for the kitchn. It's still sitting in it's box. Also, my washer door latch went kablooie. The replacement part arrived late yesterday afternoon. Yes, I do have laundry to do. We'll see what gets done...

I keep stalling on the the current WIP and defaulting to research. Did you know there were serious problems in Boston in the mid-70s over busing? (and yes, the Irish Mob did have a peripheral hand in events.) The National SOCIALIST Party dressed up in Nazi uniforms to protest. You can bet THAT would get fact-checked and me banned from FB...

There isn't really anything cool going on around here. We ignored the home-run derby and the All-Star game, our way of protesting MLB actions.

Sleep has been peppered with truly bizarre dreams and leg cramps so I've yet to make it all the way through a TV show after dinner.

I am listening to a favorite series (at least the tail-end of it) so that's good.

On that note, time to get my 3rd cup of coffee, 3rd time being the charm and all, and see if I can get my arse in gear.

Hope you get a nap or a good-nights sleep. Hang in there. 🤗

  2. Hugs on not sleeping and menopause. I *still* have hot flashes, 30-odd years after surgery. I blame that on having surgery instead of getting menopause naturally. A bummer either way.

I love hummingbirds! I know they're here somewhere, but I don't remember seeing a hummer since I moved to Texas.

Churchill is walking better and eating more. That gives me a big happy!
