Saturday Reading Wrap-up - 9/3/22

Sorry about these reading wrap-ups becoming slightly less interesting.  Less than for reading, doncha know.  Anyway, here's how the week shaped out...

No new books.  I have four unread ebooks - Paranormal, suspense, cozy mystery, and UF noir.

Books Read:

46) Seashells, Spells, and Caramels by Erin Johnson (8/28/22) - Paranormal Mystery* - 5 stars.  New to me but not underappreciated.  Free off the Book Adrenaline newsletter.
Review: "
This book is loads of amazing! It's got an interesting premise and a unique paranormal world. Plus, the characters were awesome. And the hint of romance was delicious. Oh, and the mystery was fun, too!"
Available in Audio.

No DNFs.  Yay.

Currently reading... the sequel to that urban fantasy noir thing I read last week.  It's all kinds of awesome.  It's like... steampunk and fantasy and paranormal and action/adventure and noir all rolled up.  These are long reads, though, so I won't be surprised if the weekend passes and I'm still not finished.

What have you been reading lately?

  1. This was a very slow week for me. I'm at 108 books toward my challenge and still 8 books ahead of schedule so I didn't lose much ground. After finishing the one book, I intended to pick up one of the In Death/Eve Dallas more recent books to do a quick refresh of "current events" in the series before the new release on Tuesday. I went back and looked at my reviews to refresh my memory on where to start and discovered that the last few books pissed* me off enough that I only gave 3 stars where almost every other book in the 50+ volume series is5+ stars. Anyway, that bummed me out and made me fret over where the next book will go. No other book seemed worth opening so now I'm just sorta hanging around "lost" until Tuesday. The book I finished was AWESOME, which is the high note of the week.

108 - Ruby Fever (Hidden Legacy, #6), Ilona Andrews 5+ stars, UF/Romance/AltHistory/Suspense. I love the Hidden Legacy world creaed by the authors. I love the characters. And this book finished up the character arc/story of the middle Baylor sister. No real cliffhangers, almost everything summed up nicely, a few hints of what might come if/when the Gordons (husband and wife team of Adnrew and Ilona) write another book in the series. That's a whole different story. Anyway, bad guys were defeated in spectacular fashion. Family secrets revealed. HEAs for almost everyone involved (there's still one sister and a male cousin who are unattached). Anyway, I had a book hangover after finishing, which probably added to my lack of enthusiasm to start something new.

Next up will probaboy be DESPERATION IN DEATH In Death #55.

*In the last few books, the author took serious swipes at conservatives, pretty much branded all religions as horrible women-supressing cults, and maligned the people of my home state continuously while taking swipes at small-town police departments. I know for a fact she's never set foot in my state so she's blowing smoke out her @$$. I have a long and complicated history with this series but if things continue the way she seems to be headed, I may have to throw in the towel which will give me a big ol' sad. I can overlook and/or ignore a few things for the sake of the story if there's a reason but when it becomes a beating drum for an agenda, nope. I'm done. Anyway, sorry to be a downer. Happy reading to us all! May good books rain from the shelves and internet! LOL
