Saturday Reading Wrap-up - 9/17/22

Well, howdy there.

I hadn't picked up any new books in a while, so I went on a little tear last night and actually bought 3 books.  Two were books in series that I've enjoyed previously - I think they're both 'book 3s' - and another was a book that just sounded really interesting - suspense, mystery, paranormal mystery.  Should be fun.

Books Read:

49) Faytown Calling by E. Nathan Sisk (9/15/22) - UF Noir*3# - 5 stars.  Nope, not new to me, but certainly underappreciated, so I added it.  Hey, it's my thing, I can do what I want LOL.  Paid full price for it - $4.99.
Review: "
Chock full of everything I love about fantasy, paranormal, noir, and action/adventure. It even had a little romance thrown in. Woohoo, what a ride. I'll be seriously interested in what Mr. Sisk does with the next book. (And waiting impatiently for that book to be finished - like all his other fans, I'm sure.)"

DNFs:

9/16/22 - cozy mystery - free.  It couldn't decide if it wanted to be past tense or present tense, and it was trying too hard for a folksy quality that just came off as insulting to actual folksy people.

Currently reading...  After I DNF'd that one yesterday, I spent time looking for new books to read.  Nothing came up in yesterday's newsletters, so I hit Amazon.  By the time I found a few books to snag, it was too late to start one of them, so I watched On Patrol: Live instead.

What was on your reading lists last week?

  1. A bit better listening week for me. I'm currently at 112 books of my 150 challgenge. That puts me 6 ahead of schedule. I got 4 books finished. Yay.

112 - When He's an Alpha (The Olympus Pride #2) - Suzanne Wright, ParaRom, 4 stars. Relisten for new release. These are very sexy but the characters (and animal characteristics of the shifters) make me smile. This series centers on a pride of Pallas Cats. The Alpha's true mate is a Tasmanian Devil. Fun times. FYI, the sexy times are easy to skip and the rest of the story and character development is worth it. Secondary story of shifter trafficking.

111 - When He’s Dark (The Olympus Pride #1), same as above, 4 stars. Pallas Cat and Wolverine. Lots of suspense.

110 - Untamed Delights (The Phoenix Pack, #8) same as above. This one from the previous series introduces several of the main characters in the Olympus series so it was a quick reminder listen.

109 - Desperation in Death (In Death, #55), J.D. Robb, RomSusp/Crime/SciFi (or alternative future?), 4 stars. I've had trouble with the last few books in the beloved series. It took me a good while to really get into this story. I love the main and reoccuring secondary characters. This one is full of triggers--human trafficking, child grooming, sex slaves. It had a satisfactory ending and it's always nice to peek in on Dallas, Roarke, and the gang.

Currently listening to WHEN HE'S SINFUL, the next book in the Olympus series. Once I'm done with it, I'll start the new release WHEN HE'S RUTHLESS.

Happy reading! Off to soccer for now.
