Saturday Reading Wrap-up - 2/16/19

I'm trying out a new format for these posts this week.  Let me know what you think - if anything is boring or you just don't give a hoot, that sort of thing.

I didn't get a boatload of reading done, even though I was down with a cold.  Wearing my glasses was making me sneeze worse.  Pressure on the bridge of my nose and all that.  Gah.

Anyway...

Books Obtained:  a SF, a paranormal suspense, a thriller, a paranormal mystery, and a suspense (all free).  And a romantic suspense by an Indian author just for something different - $1.99.  I've started a spreadsheet that tracks what books I downloaded, how much I paid for them, and where I found them.  Now if I can only remember to update the spreadsheet.  ;o)

Recently obtained books left to read: MG urban fantasy, horror, and 2 mysteries.  So, yeah, now I have like ten unread ebooks.  I need to either stop downloading books or read faster.  ;o)

Books read:

 14) Mind of a Killer by Dan Padavona (2/14/19) - Suspense*# - 4 stars. New to me and underappreciated.  Picked up for 99c off the Book Adrenaline newsletter.
Review: "Good characters, gripping suspense. I just felt like it was over too soon. I guess I'm used to a good suspense being more drawn out."

13) Evonne and Vraag: Bounty Hunters by Jeremy Hayes (2/10/19) - Fantasy*# - 5 stars.  New to me and underappreciated.  This is the last of the books I picked up in December.  It was free.
Review: "Different. It's more like two stories - the background of Evonne the pirate and the background of Vraag the half-ogre - that eventually merge together and become one. Definitely a fun read, though."

DNFs:

2/10/19 - MG urban fantasy - read about three pages worth and stopped.  I just wasn't in the mood for it at that time.  Frankly, I only started it because I forgot what genre it was.  Setting this one aside for later.

Currently reading: an MG fantasy.  Claims it's like Harry Potter meets Fablehaven.  With genies.  It's got a totally different mythology than my genies, which is kind of jarring for me.  But so far, so good.

And that's it for me.  What did your week in reading look like?

  1. I finished up my Kristen Ashley reread/listen of her Dream Man and Chaos series and dove into the final book in the series. Lots of her fans panned the book. I loved it. *shrug* But I LIKE lots of different POVs and she tied up all the threads left over from previous books.

I'm diving into another of her series now, rather than hitting the In Death series. These three books are set in a..."club" and deal with very sexy stuffs. Not necessarily my bag but there are some characters I want to check out that had cameos in the Chaos book. So far, she has a good handle on that particular lifestyle. So many authors *koff*eljames*koff* have no freaking clue. Anyway...

I'm waiting on a book from the library, UPROOTED by Naomi Novik, a Nebula Award winning author. There are "dragons"...or maybe the dragon is a wizard. There are virginal "sacrifices" every ten years so the village stays safe. an evil Wood...all of which are my fantasy catnip. I'm #2 on the wait list so it'll be awhile yet. I'll list it when the time comes.
