Thursday This n That

I'm starting to feel better about life in general, so that's a step in the right direction.  I saw where some person was saying they were terrified and that's kinda sad.  Personally, the thought of another 4 years of the march toward communism scared the shit out of me, so I'm not sure what's scaring them.  The thought of having to take responsibility for themselves and their own lives when the nanny state gets taken away?

And I'm ready to stop talking about all this.  I want life to return to normal.  I'd like the opportunity go get groceries and not have to choose whether I want meat this time or toilet paper because I can't afford both.  I realize that this probably won't turn around on a dime, but it would be nice to have it sooner rather than later.

The deluge here finally ended.  We got around six and a half inches of rain so far this month.  The lake level jumped up about 5 feet in 24 hours.  The river near here was flowing at 75 cubic feet per second before the rain and jumped to 25000 cubic feet per second and then jumped again to 48000 cfps.  I haven't driven out or walked down to see it yet, and it's starting to come down, so I won't see it at its worst, but gah.  Hubs just showed me a photo someone had taken of the river.  It's full of crap.  This totally harshes my chances at fishing.  Blerg.

The cats let us sleep all night last night.  Progress.  Yay.

I'm reading a Zane Grey right now.  It's interesting.  So far, not my favorite of his, but it's okay.

The bucks are back.  Right now, they're chasing tail all over the woods.  Horny bastards.

I've really been a toad these past couple weeks.  I need to cut that shit out.  It doesn't do my body any good.  It doesn't do my brain any good either.  And let's not even talk about my attitude.  That's in the crapper.  I said I was going to edit every day this month and so far, I did it once.  Yeah, not the most banner of times.  I'd like to say that ends today, but I can't promise anything.

Okay, I think that's about it for me today.  How are things in your world?

Sunday Update - Week 'Oh Who Cares'

Seriously, does anyone really care what week it is?  Oh, I'll probably still note the week number in subsequent Sunday Updates.  This morning, though?  Meh.

Now to get to what last week looked like...

The lake crested at 934.53' above sea level.  As of this morning, they've got it down to 931.28.  At this rate, it should be back to 'normal pool' in July.  If it doesn't rain any more.  Seems they've stalled the dumping of water from the dam because there's too much water in the Mississippi - which is where this water will eventually end up.  Perhaps once the Mississippi chills out, they'll dump faster.  Time will tell.

I didn't get any writing work done.  Still not sure what to do about the general malaise.

I've read a bunch, though.  A mystery, a SF, and a romance.  And I started another mystery last night.

Fertile Ground is still on sale worldwide.

Took loads of pictures.  Here's one:
That's a female rose-breasted grosbeak.  I tried to get pics of one of the males, but he was camera shy.  We've also had northern orioles in the yard, but they're camera shy, too.

Here's a baby goose butt...
One of these days, I should compile all the bird butt pictures I've taken over the years.

Speaking of female rose-breasted grosbeaks, I had one ditch into the window this week.  I held her and stroked her little head until she stopped looking stunned.  Then she flew away.  I hate that birds knock themselves silly on our picture window, but I love being able to hold them.

Well, that's it for me.  What's going on your world?

Thursday This n That

I was watching Worst Cooks in America last night and they were doing a wrap-up kind of thing where they had clips of the worst in categories.  I was totally amazed by the woman who didn't know how to use a knife.  She tried cutting with the protective sleeve on first.  Then she tried cutting with the dull side of the knife.  It was tragic.  How did that poor woman ever eat before she got on that show? Or was it all make believe for the viewers?

Yes, I am a bit cynical.

No. I won't talk about the election.  I have my reasons.  I did see someone get crazy-ass mad at a writer for posting something lighthearted on their Facebook wall.  Something like 'I don't want to talk about the election so tell me if you like grape jelly or strawberry jelly'.  (Not that, but something as innocuous.)  And this other person totally went OFF.  It was bizarre.  And a little scary.  And I didn't know the crazy person, but I totally blocked them.  Don't need anymore cray-cray.  Had enough when I was younger.

So, anyway, I went for a walk yesterday to get away from the post-election crazy.  It was awesome.  I didn't take the fishing poles, but I walked along the lake in a place I'd never walked before.  Kind of not the smartest plan I ever had because the rocky shore was totally unstable, and just about every step felt like I would start a slide that would tumble me into the water.  But it was AWESOME.  Here's where I was...
That's all usually underwater up to the vegetation line, but the lake level is so low this year.  I don't know if you can tell, but that's all big rocks.  I can't wait to fish there in the boat when the water level rises.  Basstravaganza!

This time change is killing me.  I've been up before 4 every morning since it changed.  Sleep later, my ass.  Damn Ben Franklin for thinking of this.  Damn whoever it was that implemented it during WWI.  Damn Congress for not getting rid of it a long time ago.

I need more coffee.  Always.

How's the this n that for you this week?  And, please, no election stuff.  I've had more than my fill.
