Marketing Tuesday?

Okay, so this morning's marketing went off without a hitch.  Yay.  The book actually is free right now and should be free through Saturday, barring Amazon glitches and what-have-you.

Starting today... as in not yesterday... and running through Saturday, WISH IN ONE HAND is totally free. (It's always free with your Kindle Unlimited subscription. This is so everyone else can play, too.) Don't wait to get the snarky genie goodness that started the series!

I hope it gets a lot of attention, but we'll see.  And no, I did not use my time yesterday to create marketing graphics - which is why you just see the cover here.  I'm not promising anything creative today either, as I am this close > < to being ready to send Duke Noble #2 off to readers and I really want to focus on that.

I'm just over here trying to juggle selling books and writing books.  Fingers crossed I don't drop anything.  :cue circus music:

Thursday This n That

I was reading about the Milgram experiment again this morning.  I find psychological stuff fascinating.  One thing I hadn't known about the experiment before was that Milgram had polled both psych students and colleagues beforehand about what they thought the results might be, and few of them guessed the truth.  In retrospect, and knowing what we know now, it's unsurprising to me that a majority of people would follow authority even against their own consciences.

Just now, I was at a friend's blog talking about POV choices, and it reminded me of a tense-choice I made years ago.  I had originally written Wish in One Hand in third person with a totally different general storyline.  A whole novel, shitcanned in favor of a tense change.  In case you're not a writer, that's a LOT of work in the dumper there.  I think the first draft of that was like 236 pages.  Useless and doomed to sit forever in the labyrinth of my folder system.

I took yesterday off.  Of like everything.  I watched TV and I ate.  Bacon cheeseburgers with french fries cooked in bacon grease and store-bought cheesecake.  Yum.

Oh, we did make the decision to bite the bullet, raid the savings, and schedule a full brake job on old Cally Cavalier.  In this super-hilly country, it's definitely necessary.  That's set for tomorrow.  I drop the car off in the morning and pick it up in the afternoon.  Time to dust off The Jeepster for a little shuttling work.  Thank goodness for the second vehicle or I'd be stuck sitting at either the shop or the bar down the highway a piece for 5-6 hours.  It's too far out in the middle of nowhere to walk anywhere else.  I could take a book, but sitting for that long on questionable seats would wreck me.

Cross your fingers for me.  This is an untried mechanic for us.  I mean, he came highly recommended by a guy who knows him and knows vehicles (a retired truck mechanic actually), but there's always a concern when dealing with any new [professional, doncha know.

I'll be sitting here tomorrow like a worried mama who's baby is in the hospital.  I've had Cally for 19 years now.

I joked with Hubs yesterday that I'm going to name the new brakes Rover.  Cuz I could've used that money to get a dog.  We laughed and laughed.  LOL, I kill me.  And he might if I keep joking that way.  Ba dump bump... ting.

And on that note... What's on your this-n-that list today?

Sunday Update - Week 33

Ah, there are the week numbers again.  Last week was the 33rd week of 2015.  I know because I looked it up.  =op

Anyway, 33rd week. 3rd book released.  Wish in One Hand is now available for purchase for Kindle and in print.  I'll do some kind of numbers post over at Outside the Box tomorrow.  If I remember.

It's Sunday morning.  It's pouring rain with bangers and boomers.  I didn't sleep well.  All of that boils down to a less than chipper me this morning.  My woo won't hoo.

Now that the temperatures have been cooler, Hubs and I have been taking walks in the evening.  I'm sure he has to feel like he's on some kind of nature walk every time because I point out everything.  The other day I saw a tiny, furry caterpillar that looked like shimmering molten metal as it undulated over the concrete.  Last night, I saw a tiny, furry caterpillar with black tufts along its side and a russet stripe down the middle.  Neither of them were more than a half inch long.  I notice shit like that.    I also saw a beetle that was hinged between the thorax and the abdomen such that it looked like one of those crazy buses with the accordion middle for easier turning.

I also saw a bobcat on her way out on her dusk hunting trip.  First bobcat we've seen in almost two years.  Cool.

Speaking of noticing things, I found two flaws in the second chapter of WIOH.  Those are fixed in the e-version now.  Missed an 'a' and referred to Omar's sanctuary as a box when it's actually a lamp.  (It originally was a hollow bead on an old necklace, so I'm not sure how 'box' ever came into play.) That's one of the great things about self-publishing. Find a flaw, fix it.  No muss, no fuss.  Cuz let's face it.  In a 100K word novel, you can't catch everything. Not on the tenth pass.  Not on the hundredth.

For some reason, the new growth on my forsythia keeps dying.  Have to look into that.

It's alive. It's Alive. It's ALIVE!

Bwa ha ha.

LOL

In case you hadn't heard, today is release day for Wish in One Hand

So pretty.

And here are all of my books together.  Yay!

I never thought I'd see the day when I'd have one book published, let alone three.

Thanks to everyone who helped make all of this possible.  :hugs:

Sunday Update - Week 31

Hey All.

I didn't win the lottery this week.  Bummer.

In an effort to get Dying Embers to meet the 'not for sale anywhere else' standard of KDP Select, I discovered a shitload of sites where it's been pirated.  More on that tomorrow at Outside the Box.  Not sure if that means I can't put it back into KDP Select.  We'll see.

I got the edits for Wish in One Hand back on Friday.  I'm excited to have them, but I'm dragging my feet on implementing them.  Which means there'll be a flurry of activity today because I am committed to launching this book on the 18th. Umm, yah, like two weeks from Tuesday.  Lots to be done.

My newsletter went out on Friday.  So far only one person has requested a PDF copy, so if you wanted one, it's not too late.  Just follow the instructions in the newsletter.  =o)

I finally got a picture of one of our resident roadrunners:

That's him (her?) in the front yard.  Without perspective, you'll have to take my word about how big they are.  A little taller than a standard chicken but not nearly as wide and way faster.  (Which is why it took me two years to get a pic.)

Also, we finally saw a fawn!  Just yesterday morning, we were lamenting to one of our neighbors that we hadn't seen any fawns, and he was saying how he's seen several already this year.  Late yesterday afternoon, I was watching a doe from inside the sun porch when I noticed what appeared to be a tail flicking from behind the cedar.  I changed vantage points and sure enough, FAWN!  Let's just say we were inordinately happy.

And bats!  For some reason, the local bats have been wild about the corner of our house nearest my bathroom, so several mornings now I've stumbled into the bathroom to see bats swooping past my window.  This morning, I could hear them on the log siding.  I can't see a hole where they're getting into the house - which is good.  I can only assume at this point that they are driving swarms of bugs into that corner and having a buffet.

I got the bookmarks and the postcards for Wish in One Hand!  Both weren't supposed to be delivered until this coming week, so I'm totally happy.  Keep an eye on Facebook for ways to get your hands on those suckers.  So pretty.

Today, I have to edit.  I also need to put up a Goodreads listing for Wish in One Hand, get the ball rolling on Createspace, etc.  I'll be busy busy for the next couple weeks, but it'll be worth it to finally get this book into readers' hands.

Quick note:  I live in a vacation destination, which means it's pretty quiet here from September to May, but between Memorial day and Labor day, the population swells.  (Not huge by any stretch of the imagination, but enough.)  As such, the load increases on our local DSL and slows my internet speed way down.  This means my prime internet usage is first thing in the morning or later in the evening.  If you need anything from me, I will get it done - just not during the mid-day hours.  Sorry if this causes any inconvenience.  Luckily, there aren't too many people in the world who require anything of me.  ;o)

Sunday Update - Week 29

Hey, I remembered on a Sunday!  I totally rock.

What happened last week?  Let's see...

I rolled out the cover reveal for the ebook version of Wish in One Hand.  Now I just need to complete the edits so I can put it out for pre-order.  So close.  I'll be showing the print version to my newsletter subscribers in the blast I send on August 1st, along with some exclusive stuff - a snippet, a contest for a free book, a chance to read an early ecopy of the book.  So, if you're not a newsletter subscriber, get on that before 8/1.  K?

I downloaded some other new image manipulation software that is supposedly to be comparable to my ancient Microsoft Image Composer.  So totally not.  Bleh.  I'll keep using the old stuff until some future updated Windows makes me stop.

My hardcopy book order arrived.  Ideal by Ayn Rand, Audacious by Mike Shepherd, Sew Deadly by Elizabeth Lynn Casey, and the National Audubon Society's Field Guide to Mushrooms.  Yeah, I'm eclectic.

I made some headway editing Bloodflow this week.  I love this book so much.  And this was the book that frightened me because it's pretty intricate with all the players and the intrigue and the technical stuff.  But it's coming together and should be ready for a November launch.

Oh, and if you missed the cover reveal, here it is:

Sunday Update - Week 21

Yeah, yeah, it's Memorial Day Weekend.   I got stuff to do.  I don't have time to take a three day weekend.  Hell, weekends around here are pretty-much meaningless anyway.  I work all week and take time off when I want to.  In fact, if I'm lucky and the weather ever stops dumping water on us, I'm going fishing midweek this week.  I have some new artificial crawdads I want to try and I bought a package of something called GULP.  This kind looks like minnows and is supposed to 'smell' yummy to fish.

Anyway, that's for the week ahead.  Stepping into the wayback machine courtesy of Mr. Peabody and Sherman (the real ones - not the CGI of today), here's what happened last week:

Accidental Death launched!  It didn't have the minor explosion out of the gate that Dying Embers did, but it had a bigger explosion Friday, so I'm happy.  I so want this book to do well.  (I want them all to do well, but this one is closer to home for me.)  I've already sold more this month than the first month Dying Embers was out there in the world.  Yay.  And I discovered last night that the paperback is now available through Amazon, so I got that going for me.

Wish in One Hand is with the editor for a first pass.  I don't expect this one to be that in need of editing - since several people helped me edit it before I sent it to Baen - but we'll see what she has to say.  And the cover artist - Howard David Johnson - is working on that for me.  His other work is amazing and beautiful, and I have great hopes for this cover.  I expect to launch this in August - good lord willin' and the creek don't rise.  For anyone who has been following along, this book was previously known as Djinnocide, and for those that haven't, it's a paranormal suspense with genies.

I'm also working on editing Bloodflow for a fall launch.  I started playing with cover ideas yesterday.  Man, iStock is expensive.  $33 for 3 images.  Now I have to decide which three are exactly what I need so I don't waste money playing around.  Bloodflow is a political / techno suspense set in Washington, D.C. and has some delicious intrigue, vicious plots, and dead bodies (natch).

Tomorrow, keep an eye out at Ereader News Today.  My ad for Dying Embers is due to go up.

In other news, I found a three-legged, three-toed box turtle in the yard.  Little girl was marching diligently down the hill, totally unafraid of me or anything else.  She didn't even close up when I lifted her off the ground.  She hissed a little and then stared at me.  Her missing leg is an old injury and she's so over it.  I set her down and off she went.

The wildflower seeds I scattered in the cedar garden last year, that brought me lots of lovely blooms, has come back this year - despite my planting a forsythia smack in the middle and loads of marigolds around.  I have no idea what these plants are, but they're lovely.  Plus, last year's marigolds reseeded themselves, so I'll have those blooming all summer.

Oh, and finally, last night I got the writing bug.  Whew.  After however long not writing new words, it was like a damn broke.  I got a glimmer of an idea, sat down at the keyboard, and churned out 1700 words lickety-split.  I so want to tell y'all about the story, but I don't want to jinx it.  And man, let me tell ya, yesterday I was so restless I couldn't hardly stand myself.  Then I wrote and all was well.  Sometimes you just gotta let the words out or they start to drive ya nuts.  Just sayin'.
