What's Up?

I've been busy.

I wish I could say I've been busy on writerly things.  I do have a new story I've been working on, but since I'm still over there on the couch hammering the story out in red pen on my trusty notebook, it's slow going.

No, I've been busy cleaning.  (Yeah, shocked the crap out of me, too.)  I know it's totally because I'm avoiding work.  I mean, why else would I get the sudden urge to rearrange the living room furniture?  Sure, I told myself I needed to move things around so I could decorate, but I decorated the house as it was last year with no problems, so I was just fooling myself.

Why, other than sheer avoidance, would I have tackled cleaning the vent hood on my stove yesterday?  It's a totally disgusting job.  And I know my landlady never bothered to soak the vent filter, so it was probably full of grease from past renters.  :gag:  Well, not anymore.  It's all clean and sparkly now.

So, the house is clean - mostly - and decorated for the holidays.  See?

Other than that, not much is up here.  I do have one piece of news that I'm not quite ready to share yet, as all the deets haven't been hammered out yet.  And, of course, there's the new blog: The Unpublished Writers' Guide to Survival.  I wish I had NEWS - like an interested agent or a publishing contract.  Maybe in 2013.

How about you?  What's up in your world?

  1. Finished NaNo with 200 words to spare, an unfinished story, but one I need to walk away from to get some perspective. OMG but it stinks. No depth, no emotion, no tension. I'll fix it, just not *now*. Between my health and the remodelers, I'm ready to open a bottle of wine and hibernate until Christmas.

If you didn't put Djinn up for Deb Werksman to see at Casablanca, you need to! I put Shadow Dance up just for fun. It needs some more work, but I plan to self pub it next year. Gotta finish the Moonstruck books and then get the first book in the Penumbra series out there first.

Now, will you come clean my house? LOL

  2. You know what I'm up to - knee deep in NaNo doo!! Like Silver, I'm looking at a pile of stinkeroo (although I think Silver is over exaggerating - I've read her writing). My issue - too many issues, too much emotion and characters who really don't know why they're there (what is it they are trying to accomplish).

Anyway - I agree with Silver - you should have put up the first page of Djinnocide on Casablanca Authors.

And I need to clean my house. Badly!! Your place looks great - love the procrastination activities, B.E.!

  3. Yay, Silver! It may stink, but you've got it done. Go you! Never heard of Deb or Casablanca. I'll check it out. Thanks. As for the cleaning? No way in hades, lady. I'm all cleaned out.

And your nudge, too, Janet, seals the deal. Congrats to you as well for finishing NaNo! Yay! You'll fix the issues, because you're an awesome writer. You can do it!

  5. Yay for the first tree in your new house, Nat!

Oh, and back to Silver and Janet... The Casablanca thing is only for Romance or Women's Fiction. Djinnocide is neither. Sorry. =o(
