Doubting Yourself? Read This

I mean it.  Go read this and then come back and tell me you're still letting that bitch get to you.  (Yeah, my self doubt is female.  And she really is a bitch.)

Or better yet, read that up there and go kick her narrow ass.  If you don't come back, I'll assume you're opening a whole case of bitch-slapping on that French chick.

Happy writing.  =o)

(BTW, this link came to me through Elizabeth Craig via Twitter.  If you're not following her tweets, you're really missing out on some awesomeness.)

Lyric Tuesday

Today's lyrics are brought to you by One Republic - a band I discovered from their seeing their video of All the Right Moves on VH1.  (It's very steampunk-ish.)  So, when I was waiting around for Daughter to get done with her ACT exam last year, I nabbed the CD at Walmart and drove around listening.  I loved the CD all the way through, but this song immediately drew me in.  (and yes, their incorrect use of 'hopelessly' bugged me for a while.  I got over it.  The song's worth letting it slide.)

Good Life

Woke up in London yesterday
Found myself in the city near Piccadilly
Don't really know how I got here
I got some pictures on my phone

New names and numbers that I don't know
Address to places like Abbey Road
Day turns to night, night turns to whatever we want
We're young enough to say

[Chorus]

Oh this has gotta be the good life
This has gotta be the good life
This could really be a good life, good life

Say oh, got this feeling that you can't fight
Like this city is on fire tonight
This could really be a good life
A good, good life

Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh

[Verse 2]

To my friends in New York, I say hello
My friends in L.A. they don't know
Where I've been for the past few years or so
Paris to China to Col-or-ado

Sometimes there's airplanes I can' t jump out
Sometimes there's bullshit that don't work now
We are god of stories but please tell me-e-e-e
What there is to complain about

[Bridge 1]

When you're happy like a fool
Let it take you over
When everything is out
You gotta take it in

[Chorus]

Oh this has gotta be the good life
This has gotta be the good life
This could really be a good life, good life

Say oh, got this feeling that you can't fight
Like this city is on fire tonight
This could really be a good life
A good, good life

Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh
A good good life Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh

[Bridge 2]

Hopelessly
I feel like there might be something that I'll miss
Hopelessly
I feel like the window closes oh so quick
Hopelessly
I'm taking a mental picture of you now
'Cuz hopelessly
The hope is we have so much to feel good about

[Chorus]

Oh this has gotta be the good life
This has gotta be the good life
This could really be a good life, good life

Say oh, got this feeling that you can't fight
Like this city is on fire tonight
This could really be a good life
A good, good life

Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh
Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh

To my friends in New York, I say hello
My friends in L.A. they don't know
Where I've been for the past few years or so
Paris to China to Col-or-ado

Sometimes there's airplanes I can' t jump out
Sometimes there's bullshit that don't work now
We are god of stories but please tell me-e-e-e
What there is to complain about

A Wee Break

I'm currently experiencing some stuff that's preventing me from spending as much time on the computer, so what little time I do have is being devoted to writing and beta reading.  I don't expect this to last too awfully long.  It's just one of those unavoidable and thankfully occasional chunks life throws at you.  Nothing to worry about - which is why I felt the need to write this, so none of you would worry if I wasn't posting or commenting on your blogs.

I'm not dead or dying or even sick.  I'm not having relationship problems - Hubs and I are lovely.  Everyone in the family is hunky dory.  The Kid is doing well at school.  And I didn't drop off the face of the earth.  It's just a thing - one I'd rather not go into on the world wide web.

I'll still be reading and posting any comments that come through here.  I may even comment here and there on your blogs - just not so much.  I'll also be responding to email when I can.  I might also be posting things that don't require too much thought - like pics, lyrics, etc.  So I might be here, even though I'm not here.  (If that makes any sense.)

Until I get back, talk amongst yourselves.

Peace out.

PS. Taking a wee break is harder than it looks...

A Little Mental Argument

Ever have one of those mental arguments that you know you can't win - no matter which way you go - but you have them anyway?  Well, here's a little taste of tonight's...

I should probably work tonight.

But you're in the middle of Hammered, and it's starting to get really good.  Just a few more pages...

Too bad.  I didn't work last night because you talked me into watching Biggest Loser and I was already tired from doing yard work.

Come on.  Two days off in a row won't kill you.

It'll put me off my schedule.

Make a new schedule.

I can't.  This one was working out really good for me.  Plus, you know I already revised the schedule because of last night.

So revise it again.  It's not like anyone's paying you.  Besides, Storage Wars is on and you haven't seen this one.

Stop it.  If I take tonight off for some lame ass reason, it'll make it that much easier to take tomorrow night off and do you know where that leads?

Rest?  Relaxation?  Fun?

No.  It leads to several months of sitting on your ass, hating yourself for not accomplishing anything.

...

Got nothing to say to that, huh?

:smirk:  Sure, I do.  You're right.  I give in.

That was too easy.  What are you up to?

Nothing.  Let's go work.  But first...  Let's write a fun little blogpost...

Lyric Tuesday

Hello, Everyone!  It's that time again - albeit a little late in the day.  And here are this week's lyrics from an oldie and a goodie.  It's definitely a song that'll light a fire under you when you need it.  I know it's lit my fire more than once.

Enjoy!

Don't Rain on My Parade
from the Funny Girl soundtrack

Don't tell me not to live, just sit and putter
Life's candy and the sun's a ball of butter
Don't bring around a cloud to rain on my parade

Don't tell me not to fly, I simply got to
If someone takes a spill, it's me and not you
Who told you you're allowed to rain on my parade

I'll march my band out, I'll beat my drum
And if I'm fanned out, your turn at bat, sir
At least I didn't fake it, hat, sir
I guess I didn't make it

But whether I'm the rose of sheer perfection
A freckle on the nose of life's complexion
The Cinderella or the shine apple of its eye
I gotta fly once, I gotta try once,
Only can die once, right, sir?
Ooh, life is juicy, juicy and you see,
I gotta have my bite, sir.

Get ready for me love, 'cause I'm a "comer"
I simply gotta march, my heart's a drummer
Don't bring around the cloud to rain on my parade,

I'm gonna live and live NOW!
Get what I want, I know how!
One roll for the whole shebang!
One throw that bell will go clang,
Eye on the target and wham,
One shot, one gun shot and bam!
Hey, Mr. Arnstein, here I am ...

I'll march my band out, I will beat my drum,
And if I'm fanned out, your turn at bat, sir,
At least I didn't fake it, hat, sir,
I guess I didn't make it

Get ready for me love, 'cause I'm a "comer"
I simply gotta march, my heart's a drummer
Nobody, no, nobody, is gonna rain on my parade!

Worst Movies Ever Blogfest

Today I'm jumping on the bandwagon and doing a blogfest - because this one was just too good to pass up.  The inestimable Alex J. Cavanaugh (why have I not been following this blog all along?) has come up with the idea to do a Worst Movies Ever Blogfest .  Sounds like fun, don't it?

Of course, since I was stupid and not following Alex, I didn't hear about it there.  I heard about it from blogpal and awesome suspense writer, Jennifer Hillier.

So here goes nothing...

10.  Leaving Las Vegas - I wish Nicholas Cage's character had died way earlier and just gotten it over with.  In fact, I would've cheered if Elizabeth Shue's character had held a pillow over his face.  But no, it just got more and more depressing with every passing second.  Sigh meaningfully one more time for me Nick and I'll kill you myself.

9. Pay It Forward - I started out really interested in this movie.  I thought it was going to be a happy movie about people doing kind things for other people.  And then they killed off the kid.  Ruined the whole movie for me.

8.  Old Yeller - nothing like scarring a child for life by making him fall in love with a big loveable dopey dog and then shooting it at the end.

7. Blacula - back when I was a kid and this came on the campy movie marathons around Halloween, I thought this was hilarious.  Now?  Not so much.

6. King Kong vs Godzilla - I'm a huge fan of the old Godzilla movies, but even I couldn't get past how bad this one was.  Could they have made King Kong look any more hokey?

5. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka is just creepy.  Was it just me or did his protrayal have pedophile written all over it?  :shudder:

4. Thir13en Ghosts - psycho uncle leaves his warped house to his nephew who just says 'hey, I need to get away from it all, so I'll move my whole family - including a nanny I can't afford, since I'm like broke and stuff - into this house built by an uncle I never liked'.  And then gross stuff happens.  (Although, I admit it's one of those movies that - like a horrible train wreck - I can't look away from.)

3. Night of the Living Dead - I know I'll take some heat for saying this, but this movie was so bad it went straight past 'so bad it's good' to 'so bad I want to poke my own eyes out rather than watch it again'.  Seriously people, when you see a zombie shambling across the countryside toward you?  Run.  And if you're the last survivor facing down a squad of trigger happy humans bent on killing you because they think you're a zombie, TALK TO THEM.  Don't just stand there and get gunned down.  Sheesh.  Talk about too stupid to live.

2. The Bride - Sting as Doctor Frankenstein?  Really?  Come on, people.  He did an awesome job as Fayd in the original Dune, but he failed here.  This movie was so bad even Sting's fame couldn't prop it up.

And tied for number one...

1. The Abyss and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - They both have the same problem, in my opinion.  They started out great as a kind of action/adventure/suspense things.  But aliens?  Really? It was like the writers couldn't think of anything else to do, so they threw in aliens. Bleh.

Please remember, folks, that these are my opinions only.  Don't hate me because I think these movies stink.
