I really really want to do NaNoWriMo this year. I miss the camaraderie. I miss pushing myself toward that goal of 50K in a month. But mostly, I miss writing new words. I've been pretty much editing off and on since I did the HoHoWriMo thing last December. Because if all I do is write new words and never edit, I'll never get a damn thing published. Which means I'm not doing NaNo this year either. (Unless you count the fact that I'm editing a suspense I wrote a while back that I affectionately refer to as Nano.)
I could always do what I've heard other people call NaNoRevMo. Spend November revising my brains out. Commit to having this thing whipped into shape in a month. But I did that from September 15th to October 14th for the whole Harper Voyager submission window, and frankly, I think I'm too pooped for a marathon of that nature right now.
Nah, I'll just edit at my own pace this time. If I get it done in November, great. If not...
So, while I'm not going to be in the trenches this coming month, I'll definitely be rooting from the sidelines. Make sure you let me know in the comments if you're participating in either the Wri or the Rev, so I can cheer for you.
=o)

HoHoNoWriMo Final Update
Well, it took me 5 days longer than a month, but I did get those 50K words out. Here's how the whole thing broke down for me...
Week 1: 10930
Week 2: 9105
Week 3: 11660
Week 4: 8629
Week 5: 10726
Which put me at 51050 on January 5th. (That last week was longer than 7 days, but it works for me.)
During the month of December, I took 5 days off - which is why I ended 12/31/11 with 47440 words. Two of those days fell apart because I went to Ft. Collins to pick the kid up for break and I'm always toast the day after that. Two other off days were Christmas and Christmas Eve - because, hey, writers get holidays, too. The other day was just a burp. I don't remember why I took it, but I did. So there. =op
On average, I reached 1418 words per day. My biggest word count was 3483 on the 11th. My lowest count for a day where I actually wrote was 545 on the 2nd.
A couple things I discovered along the way:
1) Writing a sequel is equal parts easy-peasy and tearing my hair out. Sure, some of the words I wrote were already pre-formed by the book that went before. But in addition to having to hold the threads of this book, I had to remember the threads from the previous. (And all the character traits, btw. Like Basil is BLOND.)
2) I don't need someone else's preconceived month to set my ass down and write 50K, but it helps to have someone writing alongside. My sincerest thanks to my friend, JB, and her constant emails of encouragement and commiseration. I probably could've done this without her, but I wouldn't have liked it nearly as much as I did.
3) I really missed writing new words.
Now, even though I did what the organizers of NaNoWriMo consider a book worth of words, I still have about 20K left to write before I consider it a whole novel. I also have to work on editing the book that started it all - Djinnocide. This month will be a mishmash of writing and editing as I attempt to tear myself along the dotted line between creative genius and anal editor.
Any questions?

HoHoNoWriMo Update
As you can tell by the word meter over there on the right, I'm moving along. I just thought I'd provide some data on the journey for this 18th day of HoHoNoWriMo.
Words written: 24461
Avg per day: 1359
Should be at: 30006
Difference: 5545
# of words needed per day to catch up and meet my goal of 50K in December: 2128
Right now, I'm creeping up on the end of chapter 8.
If you follow me on Twitter, then you'll already know that this morning I wrote myself into a fetid hot mess that I'm struggling to climb out of. It's pretty stinky here in chapter 8. Jo is up to her ass in alligators. Strange things are happening that even I wasn't expecting. And the people she depends on are either disappeared or losing their minds.
Neither of us knows who's behind all this crap. We have our suspicions, but all of the conjecture in this world is unconfirmed.
Like I said: Fetid Hot Mess.
Yes, folks, I've painted myself into a corner. And not just any corner - one filled with rancid garbage even the rats are afraid to nest in. Somebody needs to open a window because I either need a place to climb out or I just need a fresh breeze to survive the smell.

Writing Toad
I know where part of this month went. I've been writing. New words, even. Since the start of HoHoNoWriMo, I've managed to get out 11547 words on Djinn II. I'm behind, but I'm making progress (even if the word meter doesn't always reflect it). In this bastardized NaNo, I'm running at an average of 1443 words per day. Which, while about 200 words short, is still an accomplishment. If I can keep this up, even if I don't hit 50K by 1/1/12, I'll still be a winner.
The rest of the month? Well, let's just say I've been a toad and leave it at that.
How are things going in your world?
