Screwing Around

I'm kinda at loose ends right now.  Clicking over to look at sales data, when there's no sales data to speak of, is driving me bonkers.  As if, checking for new reviews, etc.  Bleh.  I should be writing, or rather editing, but I'm a little under the weather and I don't have the patience. Plus, Max is in the office today and he's more than a little... MAX! Cut that out!... distracting.

Anyway, I was screwing around the other day answering 'questions' at Goodreads, so if any of you want to know any more little tidbits about me, go here:

https://www.goodreads.com/author/13476020.B_E_Sanderson/questions

And if you have any questions you'd like to ask, feel free.  I'll answer them if I can - and if they aren't too personal or anything.

BTW, Max is at least part Maine Coon.  If you don't have experience with Maine Coons, they like to climb and they're easily bored and they crave attention.  Of course, to them negative attention is the same as positive attention.  Same same.

Now you can return to the regularly scheduled screwing around of your own.

  1. You're going to wear yourself out checking stats. A couple of years ago I finally deleted the RSS feed I had for checking my book sales on Amazon.

I stopped looking at it long ago and it was time to unload that albatross. My thinking is, once it debuts, there's not a whole lot more I can do to increase sales. It either sinks or swims at that point. Watching it won't make any difference to the outcome.

I'll concede that on the first book, I couldn't help but check sales too. It's just human nature. :)

    1. It's definitely tiring, Maria. Especially when people tell me they've bought the book, but it's not showing up in the reports. I'm trying to cut back to twice a day, but when I'm sitting here and the link is right there, it takes two seconds. Click - nope.

I disagree about not being able to do a whole lot to increase sales, though. But I'm still at the newbie 'full of hope' point. ;o)

  2. Debut sales are always slow. As the book picks up word of mouth steam and reviews, sales should go up. Do NOT get discouraged. Because...DEBUT BOOK BY DEBUT AUTHOR! Especially when you are self-pubbing, it's usually the third or fourth book before things really get going. Disheartening, but that's the biz. :(

That said, it's a damn good book and you'll pick up readers because you have the talent! Now get back to work. The way to boost sales on the first is to get the second written and out there!
