Saturday Reading Wrap-up - 9/14/19

Not a whole lot went on in my reading world this week.

I did snag some new ebooks - historical thriller, mystery, and SF.  I have four left from before - fantasy mystery, mystery, paranormal romance, and romantic suspense.  No new hardcopies.

Books read:

86) Decision at Delphi by Helen MacInnes (9/10/19) - Suspense.  5 stars.  Not new to me or underappreciated.  50c at the thrift store.
Review: "Started a little slow, but what an awesome book."
Note:  I can't believe I hadn't read Helen MacInnes before recently.  She nails it.  Now, I'm snagging her books whenever I can find them at the thrift stores.

No DNFs.

Currently reading... a YA fantasy.  It's a book 2.  I read the first book back in January and enjoyed it, so when I was looking for a book 2 to read and get after my goal of reading six book 2s this year, I picked that one.  It's pretty fun.

And that's it for me.  Since I'm writing again, I'm not reading as many books, but I am still chugging along.  Still ahead of my new reading goal of 120 for the year.

What was on your reading menu this week?

  1. I finally DNF'd that one...paranormal? Fantasy? Whatever. I stopped listenin in the middle of chapter 4 and didn't go back to it in weeks so...yeah. It was free (sort of - Audible Escape subscription). I'm currently at 189 of my 250 book challenge. Books I did finish:

    186) Blood Truth (Black Dagger Legacy #4) JR Ward. Paranormal/UF romance. Not unknown or underappreciated. From the library, 4 stars, the last in a spin off series. I liked it but don't feel the need to add it to my personal library.

    187) The Book Charmer, Karen Hawkins. Magical realism/women's fiction/romance. New author to me, not underappreciated. 5 glorious stars. I. LOVED. THIS. BOOK! Small southern town, home-grown woman and newcomer. Listening to it was like sitting on a shady porch drinking sweet tea on a warm summer day while the honeysuckle blooms along the porch. I can't recommend it highly enough. I'll definitely be reading the rest of the books in the series when they release.

    188) Connections in Death (In Death #48) JD Robb. Definitely not unknown or underappreciated. 4 stars. This is my chicken soup series. This was a re-listen to remind me of time and current events before diving into the newest release.

    189) Vendetta in Death (In Death #49) JD Robb. See above. 4 stars. I have the perp figured out early on, just as Eve did. That's okay. These books are as much police procedurals as they are mystery/suspense. Always a joy to catch up with Eve, Roarke, and the whole cast of characters. This one had a serial killer calling herself "Lady Justice."

Next up is Angels' Flight and Angels' Blood, by Nalini Singh. Relistening to another favorite series for reminders of cast and events as the new release arrives on the 24th. Angels' Flight is an anthology so I'm reading the series in order, including the 4 novellas in AF. Listened to the 2 prequels and now listening to the first full novel, which is AB.

Happy reading and writing this upcoming week!
