Saturday Reading Wrap-up 11/15/25 + Marketing

I don't really have anything exciting to report on the Reading Wrap-up.  I'm still working on reading The Martian by Andy Weir.  But there's an issue...  I made the mistake of reading the quotes on the back, wherein people, at some point, talked up the book.  All in all, not a bad thing, but there's one that says the book is like a cross between Castaway and Apollo 13.  Not that it's not an accurate representation.  Actually it is, but it's killing my reading enjoyment.

At first, I was like 'hey, yeah... it's Castaway on Mars... cool'.  Now I can't stop thinking about those two things in relation to the story I'm trying to read and making comparisons instead of enjoying the story.

For starters, I loved both Castaway and Apollo 13 once upon a time.  Then Hanks went leftist and now I can't even watch the dude.  (I have a tough time enjoying entertainment once I learn the entertainer's politics are antithetical to my own.  It's definitely me.  Don't get me started on Bette Midler.)

Then I get to wondering... Is Watney supposed to be Tom Hanks?  He was played by Matt Damon in the movie.  First, I picture the character as Tom then I picture him as Matt... It's confusing.

When Watney gets home is he going to learn his girlfriend married someone else?

Anyway, we'll see if I actually finish this book.  I think I need to take a few days off from it and see if I can't get over it.

Now, onto the marketing portion.  This weekend only, get UNEQUAL absolutely free. (Always free with Kindle Unlimited.) Pick up your copy of this dystopian suspense today. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07LDVFWBS

This is probably it for the weekend marketing experiment.  I didn't move that many copies of Blink last week, and I'm not seeing much hope for moving books this weekend.  The energy output is not equaling the return, so make it stop.

  1. I hear you on the opposite views/no bueno watch-read thing. Good luck finishing the book. I haven't read it, didn't see the movie. Didn't care. *shrug*

I don't remember what I reported last week. I should go back and look, huh? Ah. No wrap-up last Saturday. No wonder I don't remember. Okay. Quick recap. I've read 109 books which puts me 5 ahead of schedule on my goal of 120. In past weeks, I've tried two "huge" selling books with lots of hype. I basically skimmed them after about 50-100 pages. They aren't bad books. They didn't snag and hold me. It was more of a catch and release experience. Then I tumbled across a book I'd read over 10 years ago and discovered it was available in a full-cast audio version. I followed it up with the 2nd book in that series. Enjoyed both, with 3 more books to go. I'll get to them eventually.
109 - SILVER (Silver #1), Rhiannon Held. Paranormal/UF/RomElements. 5 stars. Werewolf injected with silver is found by enforcer of the local pack. He sets out on mission to discover who she is and where she came from.

108 - TARNISHED (Silver #2) RH, P/UF/RE. 5 stars. Continuation of the story, mystery solved, lots of politics within the various packs plus arrival of outside threat formed by baggage carried by the hero.

Currently listening to TURNS OF FATE by Anne Bishop. I've been anticipating this book, first (I believe) in a new series. It is somewhat reminiscent of her The Others series--LOVED it and have read/listened to that full series numerous times. It's set in an England-ish locale, with a mysterious river (the River Fate) and an even more myterious island, Wyrd. Stange people, the Arcana, live on Wryd. Think the old gods like the Green Man, along with the Ferryman, the Greek Fates, and others. I'm really hoping for this to be a series because I'm truly enjoying the book.

    Happy reading!
