Olympics Time is Here!

:Kermitflail:

I do love the Olympics - both winter and summer.  I love watching these athletes do what they've trained their whole lives for and succeed.  All the athletes.  Sure, I root harder for the U.S.A. team members, but seeing someone who is infinitely talented in their chosen endeavor crosses border lines.  For instance, did any of you catch the short-program for the men last night in the new team figure skating?  The guy for Japan was amazing!  So fluid.  So confident.  And there was such joy on his face.  You could really tell he loved what he was doing.  Since our guy kind of bombed last night, I hope this Japanese guy wins.  (Especially since I can't stand the Russian dude.  I seem to remember he was kind of an ass during the last Olympics.)

I can't wait for the short-track speed skating to begin.  And the half-pipe.  And the moguls (which had preliminaries on last night).  Hell, I'll even watch curling if there's not a more exciting sport on.  I can't wait for the medals to start pouring in.

I'll also put up my typical Medal Count thingie over in the sidebar once medals start getting awarded.  (And once NBC fixes their medals webpage.  Right now, it's showing 2010 medals still. )

What about you?  Do you watch?  Do you care?  Which events are your favorites?

  1. We love the winter Olympics - ****Go Canada**** And curling happens to be one of our favorite sports (I know - hey, we're Canadian). But I also love watching the ski cross and snowboard cross - those athletes are crazy!! The Husband is not much into figure skating, so we usually don't watch that. We'll also be glued to the hockey games, both men and women!

  2. Janet, you said it! Everything she said, except for the figure skating. Love it. We just all round love the winter olympics! And curling? Yep, love to watch Olympic curling. We've even got a local medal hopeful! Shout out to Mark McMorris the snowboarder! Who's competing with a fractured rib!

  3. The stuff I like to watch doesn't really get the coverage, like the biathlon--allt hat cross-country skiing and then being steady enough to shoot targets? Dang! And bobsledding. I even like curling, though the Paul Gross movie, MEN WITH BROOMS, might have something to do with that... *looks shifty-eyed* Not sure if I'll switch over to watch or not. Karyn, I will root for your snowboarder!

    Have a great weekend, everyone.

    2. Sorry I missed you earlier, too, Silver. Also, I'm sorry your sports don't get coverage. =o( I knew a biathlete once. Great guy.

  4. AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love, love, love the Olympics! I may be married to an American, but I am Canadian all the way! GO CANADA GO!!!!!!!

I will, however, cheer for America second, LOL. I am happy that my parents will be here for part of the Olympics, so I won't be so alone. We're thinking of getting a hockey viewing party together one day. It might be best if we aren't playing USA though, because that might not go over well for the losing side, LOL!

I'm so glad your folks will be there, too. Good luck with the hockey viewing party!

    2. LOL! Was I too subtle?

But no, I'm all for the USA too (except when they're against Canada, obviously). It's pretty fun to cheer for both countries =)

  5. Ah poop, I forgot to answer the question, lol.

I love the usual suspects, but my favourites are hockey, figure skating, snowboarding, and curling. Oh, and speed skating. Ah hell, I like them all. WHO CAN CHOOSE?

    2. Yep. We basically just leave the TV on during the Olympics. We spent the opening ceremonies at my in-laws' house, and they want us back over there again today.
