Saturday Reading Wrap- up - 10/22/22

Okay, so I totally forgot to do a reading wrap-up last week.  So, here's what I've done since last I wrapped up...

First, last Saturday, I picked up twelve hardcopy book at a thrift store I'd never been to before.  I got four hardcovers and eight paperbacks - 4 mysteries, 5 SF, a fantasy, a suspense, and a NF - with loads of big names like Agatha Christie, Ellery Queen, Vince Flynn, Robert Heinlein, Gordon R. Dickson, Alan Dean Foster, Arthur C. Clarke, Larry Niven.  Cost me $4.  Yay.

Books Read:

57) Elephants Can Remember by Agatha Christe (10/21/22) - Mystery - 5 stars. Neither new to me nor underappreciated.  Picked up for 25c from the thrift store.
Review: "
I read a different edition of this one this time. I can never seem to remember which of Christie's novels I own when I'm strolling through the thrift stores. Eh, it doesn't really matter. They're all awesome and the search continues to own them all. In old book form, of course. This was excellent, of course."

56) For Love of Mother-Not by Alan Dean Foster (10/16/22) - SF - 5 stars.  I love Alan Dean Foster, but I hadn't read this one.  Still, not new to me or underappreciated.  25c at my new favorite thrift store.
Review: "I'd never read any of these before, so I guess it's best I started with the prequel. Awesome stuff."

55) Assassin's Moon by Silver James (10/9/22) - Paranormal Romantic Suspense* - 5 stars.  Not new to me but certainly underappreciated.  Paid full price $2.99.
Review: "Another amazing re-release by Ms. James. This was an awesome book before, but she's made it deeper, stronger, better... with more feels. Most excellent!

54) Grumbles from the Grave by Robert A. Heinlein / Virginia Heinlein (10/9/22) - NF - 5 stars. Neither new to me nor underappreciated, but I don't understand the people who gave it low stars.   I paid $2 for this at my former favorite thrift store.
No Review.

No DNFs.

Currently reading...  I think I'll pick up one of the cute cozies I snagged from the thrift store next.  Fun!

What's on your reading wrap-up this week?  Last week?  What's ahead for you?

  1. Okay. I need a clueX4. What does NF stand for? I'm at 133 books on the year, 13 ahead of schedule. I've listened to six(?) in the last two weeks.

133 - Archangel's Kiss (Guild Hunter, #2), Nalini Singh. 5 stars. See next comment. (I started from the bottom this week. LOL)

132 - Angels' Blood (Guild Hunter, #1), Nalini Singh. 5 stars. UF/ParaRom/Alt.Hist. Multiple rereads/listens. New release coming Tuesday so thought I'd grab this one since nothing else on my radar "felt" right. I should know better. Now I'm doing a series marathon. LOLOL Love these books. Vampire hunter and archangel. What can go wrong? Amazing worldbuilding and alternate history to explain things.
131 - 'Scuse Me While I Kill This Guy (Greatest Hits, #1), Leslie Langry. RomCom/Crime(?). 3 stars. Title popped up in my FB feed. I got it for free on Hoopla. Family of assassins with...quirks. It was quirky and humorous but I never did LOL or really connect with the MC. Could have been headspace. different strokes for different folks and all that.

130 - Cold Burn of Magic (Black Blade #1), Jennifer Estep. YA UF. 4 stars. This would have been 3 but I liked the premise. I got it way cheap on an Audio sale and was between books. It's typical YA (I DO enjoy this author's more adult Shards/Gargoyle Queen series) and I'm so not the target audience but like I said, interesting premise--paranormal "mob" families run a supernatural town in West Virginia. MC is an outcast with secret ties to #2 family, with handsome scion. MC is 17 so yeah. I have trouble with all the skills and responsibilities. Still worth the $2 because it whiled away some time.
129 - Sweetwater and the Witch (Ghost Hunters/Harmony #15), Jayne Castle, SF/ParaRom, 5 stars. Not new, not underappreciated, but new release is series. Lots of fun.

128 - Guild Boss (Ghost Hunters/Harmony, #14), Jayne Castle, SF/ParaRom. 4 stars. Relisten. Not new, not underappreciated. Fun book in the series.

Currently listening to Singh's ARCHANGEL'S CONSORT (#3). I only have like 12 more to go to catch up to the one that drops on Tuesday. LOLOL Happy reading, all!
