Sunday Update - Weeks 17

Sorry I missed last week.  I blame Easter.

Anyway, here's what's going on in my life...

I figured out that I may have gotten on the totally WRONG track with the Djinn books.  Book two should actually be like book four and what I'm currently writing then should probably be book five.  Hell, it's even possible that Book One should be later in the series.  Maybe I should've spent some time building a world - letting people see what Jo really does for a living - instead of jumping in and with this conspiracy thing which leads directly to my current Djinn 2 and thus, Djinn3.

Other than that, I've been working with the Hubs on some home improvement projects, or what we like to call 'PHASE 2'.  We got the electrical done.  Then before Easter, the insulation was delivered, so Hubs has been working on that (because I can't climb ladders).  We also got about 7 yards of pea gravel delivered, so I started clearing the area under the deck of weeds and flattening the whole thing out.  Once that's done, I've got the rest of the perimeter of the house to clean up.  Then I can start hauling pebbles (with Hubs, if the insulation is done and he hasn't started the plumbing project yet).

It's tiring work, but hey, I realized when I went in for my yearly doctor's visit, that I actually feel WAY better than I did at this time last year.  So, that's a win.

I've also been reading a ton.  So, I guess it's a good thing I finally got an eye exam.  And reading glasses.  Getting older blows.

So, what's going on in your world lately?

  1. Yay for finishing the electrical work. I'm glad you're feeling better than last year! Hard work will do that. ;-)

I'm still editing, and adding new scenes. Around 1700 new words this week. And I'm outlining a sequel to Feda's Anchor. That is fun! But I really need to finish editing my four first drafts before I start writing a new book.

Wishing you inspiration on how to deal with Jo's history. I hope this week goes more smoothly for you.

    1. LOL, yep, Deb, hard work will shape a body up. Thank goodness because my office chair had a permanent butt imprint.

Yay for the new words. You go! I totally hear ya on the wanting to finish unedited books before starting something new. Thanks for the inspiration and the hopes. :hugs:

  2. Ummm…should I say "congrats" on figuring out the problem or "oh no!" because of the work it will entail?

    Glad you're feeling better!

    1. Either one will work, JB. ;o) It'll be a lot of work, but if I do it right, the work I've already done won't be a total waste. Time will tell.

  3. Yeah...I totally get that whole worldbuilding and and oops this is a book WAAAAY in the future thing.

Keep your hatches battened today. We got lucky which means lots of weather energy boiling up by the time it gets to you.

I'm 16,500 words into the Christmas novella. I have up to 30K but I'm thinking more like 20k, 25K max. I have a few more scenes to layer and stretch and then finish up the end. That chapter is mostly finished but I have to...you know...end things. LOL

    1. Yeah, Silver. It happens to the best of us, eh? The weather has been mostly missing us - and so far the really bad stuff has gone to either side.

Yay for cranking out the words! LOL, yep - the ending of things. Been there, done that. You'll figure it out and make it awesome.

  4. You've been busy, B.E. - and I assume there will be more busy-ness to come considering we're moving into spring/summer and you'll have lots of projects around the house! The joy of home ownership!!

Interesting about your thoughts on Djinn - I look forward to hearing more about it. I have no advice other than suggesting you do a quick outline (nothing detailed or even advanced - more like short tagline/book blurb stuff) to see whether or not it makes sense. As I said on Silver's blog - I think Djinn1 and 2 work very well together and flow nicely. Good luck :)

  5. Glad you had an epiphany on the Djinn series! And it sounds like you've been very busy with house projects. Hauling gravel means you deserve chocolate!
