I'm Just a Reading Machine...

da dun dun dunt da dun dun dun da.

:dances a little:

Yeah... Sorry if that's stuck in your head now, but I couldn't help myself.  I've just been reading like a crazy person lately.  Other than the tired eyes, it feels great to get lost in book after book.  All kinds of books.  I'd throw them on the floor and roll around in them, but they're mostly on my Kindle and Zoe would break if I rolled around on her.

I suppose I should feel a little guilty that I'm reading the hard work of all those other authors while not really working hard myself.  But I don't.

I should probably feel a little guilty about the fact that my house is kinda messy.  Hubs did such a lovely job cleaning his bathroom the other day and my bathroom is a disaster area.  Hey I did the dishes yesterday and I've been cooking our meals...  The dust bunnies can wait.  They aren't going anywhere.

When I started the year, I knew what I was facing, so I only committed to reading 50 books.  But it wasn't nearly as time consuming as I thought, so I upped the commitment to 75 books.  Then I really was burning up the old ebook files, so I upped the commitment again to last year's goal of 90.

Yesterday I read my 77th book of the year, so that was probably a wise move.  (No, really, I read a whole book yesterday - and it wasn't even a brain fluffer.  Political thriller - 216 epages - read yesterday while I watched the MSU game and then the U of M game.)

Readin' machine.  I am it.

What have you been reading lately?  Are you on track to reach your reading goals?

  1. Good job! I set a goal of 50 this year because, like you, I knew I was going to be busy. I'm at 57 right now, with a new goal of 75. Alas, I don't think I'll need to up it again. I'm trying to finish this first draft, then it's going to be edit, edit, edit! Of course, I am scheduled to beta for about 5 people in November, so it's possible that my numbers will shoot up, LOL!

  2. Don't you just love it when you get lost in a book (books) and the time flies and the world passes on by and there's not a care in the world except what's happening between those pages? I haven't had a day like that in ages - must schedule one!

Trying to work my way through Wolf Hall (historical fiction of much magnitude) - will be looking for something a little less ambitious for my next read. Hmmm, I don't make reading goals - maybe I need to revisit that come January!!

  3. I'm reading #73, with a goal of 90. My "you're xx books ahead" has been dropping lately, but I think I'll be able to bump that number up come next week. That's when I leave for vacation and I like to read when it's not my turn to drive. And we'll be doing lots of driving since we're basically headed to Austin to watch my daughter play in the Footy (Australian Football) Tournaments the following weekend. I've tried writing in the car, but it just doesn't work - in fact, I got queasy the last time, not something I want to experience again.

  4. I hit my goal of 100 in like...June? So I upped it to 150. I'm behind now because writing/marketing/life interfered of late. I switched off the computer this weekend and read. I went back and reread the first 3 In Death books, the latest, THANKLESS IN DEATH, and polished off Jen Lyon's OBSESSION yesterday. Not sure what's up next. I'm about 10 books behind schedule now but considering how many are on my Kindle Fire, I'll get caught up ASAP.
