Fat Boy

Here's the pics of Fat Boy I promised on Sunday:

If his head was bigger, he'd be mistaken for a calf.

Now here he is with his mom, who we've named Scarlet:
Please note how Fat Boy isn't really that much smaller than his mom.

And here he is taking a snooze in the yard:
Of course, we really have no idea if this is a male of female fawn, but Hubs read somewhere that the boy fawns are generally larger than the females, and he's been the largest since we first started seeing him.

In other deer news, we learned he isn't the only fawn left on Walton's Mountain. Turns out we've started a trend and several other homes are now feeding deer, so they're hanging out at those houses instead of ours.  The twins we thought we lost are actually over there.  Yay!  I still miss the big herd around the yard, but at least they're okay.

Oh, and in case you missed it on my FB feed, the bucks came back the other morning:
=o)

  1. I don't mind deer around my place as long as they leave my garden alone.

    1. When we first moved here, the deer ate the lilies and the buds off my roses. After that, I didn't bother planting lilies again and they've left the roses alone. Everything else I planted is 'deer resistant' or hidden behind plants deer don't like - like mums and marigolds. I don't bother trying to plant vegetables. I'd need a 6' fence like our one neighbor has around their garden.

  2. There are deer in the area (city limits), but they don't come close to our house. Still have to watch out for them, though. They tend to cross the road when you're not looking!

    1. Oh yeah, we definitely have to watch the roads around here. Deer, armadillos, raccoons, skunks, coyotes, opossums... It's gruesome driving to Walmart sometimes.

  3. That's cool the neighbors are feeding, too! When winter comes, the deer will have a better chance of surviving!

    1. Yep, Silver, we'll have fat and healthy deer this winter - as long as they make it through hunting season this fall. ;o)

  4. Yay for Fat Boy! Wow, he's big!

I so enjoy your photos - partly because everything is so green. ;-)

    1. I thought you'd like that, Deb. He's starting to get taller now, so his cute pudginess is going away, but he's still awesome.

I'm so glad you like the pics. We love how green everything is here, too, especially after scrubby gray Colorado.
